Early 2000s Disney fans rejoice, as it looks like aLizzie McGuirereboot may finally be on the way. There has been some talk here and there of bringing back the beloved series, in some way, shape or form, over the years, but nothing has ever materialized. However, star Hilary Duff is now talking openly about the possibility and reveals there have been creative discussions about a reboot going on.
The 31-year-old actress discussed the prospect of aLizzie McGuirereboot during a recent interview. This is something that has come up plenty in the past but, given howpopular similar rebootsand revivals have become, the time feels right to check back in with Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo. Hilary Duff had this to say about it.
“It’s in very new stages. There’s been a lot of creative talk. I think the timing hasn’t been right. I’m excited at the prospect of it. [Lizzie McGuire] was important to so many people, including me. If she can be important again togirls in this stage of their lives, I think that would be amazing.”
So, while that doesn’t mean that theDisneyChannel has given a reboot the green light, it does sound like things are moving in the right direction. But what wouldLizzie McGuirelook like in 2019 or beyond? That’s a question that also has come up in the past. In a different interview with Entertainment Weekly from earlier this year, Hilary Duff also explained that conversations had been going on, while also revealing that pinning down where the character would be in her life has been a bit tricky.
“There’s been lots of conversations about [where Lizzie would be in 2018]. I’m racking my brain. I don’t think she’s a mom yet, but she might be getting there soon.”
Even if Lizzie isn’t a mom yet, we could perhaps follow her on a journey through her early 30s that eventuallyleads to motherhood. In any event, there certainly would seem to be an audience for this.Girl Meets World, which was a revival/spin-off of the popular 90s seriesBoy Meets World, could perhaps be used as a template. Though, it’s worth noting that there were a couple of attempts ofLizzie McGuirespin-offs in the past, including one that had cast Selena Gomez in the main role. But that version never made it to air.
Lizzie McGuiremade its debut on Disney Channel in 2001, lasting just two (albeit very long) seasons for a total of 65 episodes. The character was also given her own movie, TheLizzie McGuiremovie, in 2003. There is no word yet on who would be involved in the reboot, but one would expect creator Terri Minsky to at least have a say, if not be heavily involved creatively. Hopefully, Disney can get the pieces put together and give us some sort of formal announcement in the coming year. This was first reported byFox News.
