Featuring Stallone’s face on Macaulay Culkin’s body, the video is just as strange as it sounds, and while we’ve seen plenty of odd deepfake videos before,Home Stallonejust might be the strangest one yet. Presumably, the idea behind the video all comes down to how the word “alone” rhymes with “Stallone,” but the ridiculous concept has resulted in a video that’s pulled in over a million viewers in the span of two days.
In the video, several of the most notable scenes fromHome Aloneare used, with Stallone’s face edited into the footage to replace Culkin. While most other deepfake videos will leave the audio intact with the original dialogue,Home Stallonegoes the extra mile by replacing Culkin’s dialogue with a Stallone impersonator using the actor’s trademark accent. Oddly enough, the parody doesn’t include any bits of the Wet Bandits, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), focusing on the more Kevin-centric scenes - such as screaming in the mirror after applying aftershave.
This isn’t the first entertainingdeepfake videofeaturing Stallone’s likeness to go viral online. Earlier this year, theRockystar replaced Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular android in footage fromTerminator 2: Judgment Day, and it was rather fascinating to see what that movie would have looked like with Stallone in the lead role. Other notable deepfake videos to gather a lot of attention online include parodies depicting Jim Carrey as Jack Torrance inThe Shining, Nick Offerman as Wednesday Addams inThe Addams Family, and Tom Selleck replacing Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones inRaiders of the Lost Ark.
On the topic of alternate versions ofHome Alone, an upcoming remake of the original movie is currently in the works for theDisney+ streaming service. The movie will feature all-new characters with a different family replacingthe McCallisters, but the gist of the plot will be the same. In the original movie (and its various sequels, barring the New York-set second movie), a young boy resorts to the use of booby-traps and other homemade devices to thwart the attempts of robbers looking to burglarize the family home. There’s no word yet on when the reboot will debut on Disney+.
As for Stallone, the actor was back on the big screen just last month revisiting one of his own most popular franchises. Portraying the role of John Rambo one last time, Stallone starred in the bloody action thrillerRambo: Last Blood, which just recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. Stallone has also teased upcoming sequels forRockyandThe Expendablesas well, and there will be plenty to see him in aside from parody videos on the internet imagining him in classic Disney movies.
The deepfake trend will also likely continue to live on for some time to come, and we’re sure to see other strange videos of this type popping up on the internet before we know it. Admittedly, the videos are very amusing, but all the same, there’s something oddly disturbing about many of them. Perhaps that’s the whole point.
