The Emmy-winning medical dramaHousecontinues to be popular among its fans, but over a decade after the series reached its conclusion after eight seasons, there is still no sign of a revival. NowLisa Edelstein, who played Dr. Lisa Cuddy in the show, has addressed the chances ofHouseever returning in any form.
Housefeatured Hugh Laurie in the titular roleof the abrupt, politically incorrect, but genius doctor Gregory House. The series was a huge hit between 2004 and 2012, scoring high viewership, two Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys, and three Creative Arts Emmys to boot. The series followed House through his battles with drug addiction, his peers, and frequently the entire medical profession, as he utilized unorthodox methods of treating his patients that often bordered on being immoral as well as dangerous.
Speaking withScreenRantat the Tribeca Film Festival, Edelstein shared her candid view on the possibility ofHousebeing revived now that there seems to be a need for that kind of edgy TV, and with so many people recently discovering the show on streaming platforms. She said:
“It’s complicated, but, I mean, I’m not sure. I mean, everything’s possible. I mean, it was such a wonderful experience when it was existing. I love that young people are embracing it again. It’s really interesting to me because, culturally, things just keep shifting back and forth. The Good Doctor was David Shore’s next show, and it’s kind of the inverse of House, where everybody’s so good.”

A House Sequel Would Be Tricky for Several Reasons
As Edelstein notes, everything is possible. However, the final episode ofHousewould be pretty hard to directly follow up in anyway. Laurie could quite easily reprise his role as Gregory House. At the age of 64, the actor is still at an age where he could continue to play the grouchy medic.The other main stars of the showcould also still be able to pick up the threads of the characters they left behind in 2012.
The biggest challenge facing such a revival is the way the series reached its conclusion. The finale of the show saw House fake his death and head off into the world on a journey of exploration with his colleague Wilson, who himself was diagnosed with a late-stage rumor. Reviving the series now would almost guarantee that the character of Wilson will have passed away, ruling him out as a returning character, and House returning to explain his assumed death would also prove somewhat impossible to negotiate. Without these two main characters, any kind of spin-off would not beHouseand rebooting the series would have the terrible task of trying to find someone who could match Hugh Laurie’s incredible performance as Gregory House.
