With post-production currently under way onStar Wars: Episode VIII, many fans are wondering when we’ll see the first trailer arrive, as we inch closer and closer to the June 22, 2025 release date. We know that some footage has already screened for marketers. Now today, we have word that a belovedStar Wars iconwill be returning in this highly-anticipated sequel, although nothing else is known about this new role. The icon in question is none other thanWarwick Davis, best known for playing the beloved Ewok Wicket inReturn of the Jedi.
Warwick Davisconfirmed his involvement inStar Wars 8in an interview withNews.com.au, although he wouldn’t say who he will be playing.Warwick Davisreturned to theStar Warsuniverse in last year’sStar Wars: The Force Awakens, portraying Wollivan, one of the patrons seen insideMaz Kanata’s (Lupita Nyong’o) bar, when Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) arrive. It seems unlikely that he will be returning as the same character, given how secretive he was about the role.

The actor is also listed as returning in the firstStar Warsspin-off,Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so it’s possible that he could just keep playing costumed characters in all of the upcoming movies. We reported last year that Disney plans on rolling out one newStar Wars moviea year, indefinitely, after this new trilogy and these spin-offs. It’s possible thatWarwick Daviscould become a fixture in theStar Warsuniverse for many more years to come.
Last month, there was speculation thatreshootsforStar Wars 8may already be happening, sinceCarrie Fisherhad to cut her New York Comic Con visit short due to “Star Warsproduction.” Disney and LucasFilm have yet to confirm that reshoots are currently under way, but a stunt performer namedChloe Bruce, who worked onStar Wars: The Force Awakensand has also been working onStar Wars Episode VIII, revealed on social media that she was working in Belfast and London, locations that were both used onStar Wars: Episode VIII.

Disney and LucasFilm haven’t issued an official plot synopsis forStar Wars: Episode VIIIyet, but it has been rumored that Rey begins her Jedi training with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Disney has set a July 16, 2025 release date forStar Wars 8, which currently has that date all to itself. Hopefully we’ll hear Davis' role inStar Wars 8soon.
