Isabela Mercedwill take flight this summer as Superman ’s ally Hawkgirl, joining David Corenswet’s Man of Steel, as well as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Edi Gathergi’s Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, among others. However, just like many of her costars, Merced is not exactly a newcomer to the world of superheroes, having appeared in last year’s Sony Spider-Man Universe movie,Madame Web.
While Merced – and the world – will be hoping thatSupermanreceives a better reception than the critically panned box office flop that wasMadame Web, one comparison the actress can make between the two movies is that getting into costume as a superhero isn’t always as fun as it looks. Recalling her short moments in her character’s superhero outfit inMadame Web, Merced toldEW:

“I got a taste of the super suit, which was not fun. The tightness and the way you had to make everything look cool, but also aggressive, but also smooth, but also in a tight suit, but also you’re wearing a harness…It’s a lot.”
‘Superman’ Star Recalls Getting in Trouble After Accidentally Revealing a Spoiler
The ‘Superman’ actress made an “innocent mistake” while at the table read for the film.
InSuperman,Merced’s Hawkgirl is seen in her very elaborate costumefor a lot longer than her time playing Anya Corazon as part of Marvel’s dud. This meant that she had to spend a lot of time in harnesses, in the hot Cleveland sun. However, the experience was not one she had to endure alone, and there was one surprising thing that helped her really enjoy it.

“We all were going through it together. We’d use fans on each other to ensure we weren’t hot on the summer days where we’d be in harnesses in the middle of in Cleveland. Every scene I’m flying, pretty much. But it’s cool because I’m an adrenaline seeker. I like being dropped from really high heights. It’s actually one of my favorite things.”
Hawkgirl’s Role in Superman Is Mostly Still a Mystery
Despite several trailers, various set images, and plenty of talk about the movie, Superman is still retaining many secrets ahead of its July release. While a new trailer is reportedly imminent, which will include some previously unseen footage, it is unlikely we will get many reveals about Hawkgirl before the film hits cinemas.
Merced herself has also not given away much about her character, but has previously teased her “badass” suit, which has since been revealed in the first trailer footage. He said last year:

“Well, there have been some leaked pictures online. However, I think James knows what he wants, and this specific suit is for this specific timeline in the story. I don’t know what else I can say, but I gotta say, the helmet was my absolute favorite. It’s so sick. It’s so badass. It’s perfect.”
Superman’s hype is slowly starting to build, as is the divisive opinion online about just how good – or bad -James Gunn’s take on the iconic DC herois going to be. Many are sensibly reserving judgment until they get to see the movie for themselves, and it is safe to say that, just like in 1978, there will be a lot of people turning up on opening weekend to see if the film can once again make them believe a man can fly.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.' rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
