It was announced earlier this year that Andres Muschietti’sIT 2is set to begin production this summer in the Toronto/Port Hope area with the original cast of kids coming back to reprise their roles. Muschietti has spoken out before about wanting to get the production started earlier rather than later since the cast is all growing up rapidly, hence the production beginning this summer, ahead of the fall 2019 release date. And now, the working title has been revealed and it pays tribute toJoe Pesci’s Leo Getz from Lethal Weapon 2.
Eagle-eyed fans of IT noticed thatLethal Weapon 2was one of the movies that was shown in Derry and it appears that the action sequel is jokingly referred to in the working title ofIT 2. The working title is “Drive-Thru,” which is a take on Joe Pesci’s iconic performance inLethal Weapon 2where his character, Leo Getz, goes on a profanity-laced tirade about ordering food from the drive-thru windows at restaurants. Fans will remember that the whole rant started when Getz was mistakenly given a tuna fish sandwich.
It was recently announced thatJessica Chastain is in talks to play Beverly in IT 2after months of speculation. After the first movie came out and the sequel was announced, many fans automatically thought that Chastain would be the perfect choice to play the adult version of Beverly. Additionally, the actress has previous working experience with Andres Muschietti onMama. Muschietti has publicly stated that Chastain is his first choice to play Beverly Marsh and the actress has also expressed interest.
As for the rest of the adult cast, not much else is clear at this time except for the return of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Skarsgard previously spoke about a deleted scene from the first movie that was not included in the bonus features of the Blu-ray release. The scene in question features Pennywise before he was the clown, eating a baby. It seems that the scene, which had to do with the origins of Pennywise, will more than likely end up inIT 2along with some other scenes that Andres Muschietti filmed for the first installment but did not end up using in the final cut.
TheIT 2 release dateis set for fall 2019 and with working title “Drive-Thru,” is expected to begin production on June 18th and last for most of the summer. The story ofIT 2will pick up 27 years after the first movie and take place in 2017. The sequel will find The Losers Club reunited in Derry, Maine when they learn that Pennywise has returned. All of the Club completely forget what happened when they were children, but the memories slowly start to come back when they all arrive back in Derry. The report about the working title was originally reported by Omega Underground. Check out Leo Getz’s drive-thru scene fromLethal Weapon 2, which gaveIT 2a working title below.
