A long-timeJames Bondfavorite has suspiciously dodged a question about whether he is in fact in line to star as the new 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in 2021’sNo Time to Die. During a recent appearance onCapital Breakfastin the United Kingdom, actorJames Nortondeftly avoided answering a straight question from a fan about whether we are “going to see you as Bond next?”
Not only did Norton largely avoid the question, adding to the suspicion and intrigue was the response from co-host Sian Welby, who laughed and said, “We’re not even allowed to ask that.” Now, why would they have been told not to ask such a question if there were no truth to it? Let the curious chin-stroking begin. Swerving the question, and revealing whether he was out of his “sad dad era,” Norton replied…

“Bond question! Do you know what, when they asked me what the villain I’d like to play, I was like, ‘Don’t say Bond villain, don’t say Bond villain.’ Because you know the story, the media headline.
Is it the end of a sad dad era? I don’t think so. I think there’s more sad dads to come. In fact, the show I just mentioned, playing King Harold in the Battle of Hastings drama which we’ve got coming out, I’ve got a little tinge of the sad dad in that. So, I’m not out of that era quite yet!”

It’s also hard to ignore the addition of the word “yet” in his response.

Of course, it could also be a mere coincidence. While James Norton does possess all the necessary requirements for the role, abehind-the-scenes falling out between Amazonand Bond producer Barara Broccoli could result in us waiting some time before finding out what the future of the franchise holds.
