DirectorJames Gunnis currently hard at work doing post production on theMarvel Phase 3adventureGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is no doubt exciting. As many know, no matter how busy the director is, he always finds time to interact with his fans on social media. On Sunday,Gunntook some time out of his day to answer some fan questions, and he revealed that he has had the opportunity to directDC Comicsmovies in the past.

Gunndid the Q&A on hisFacebookpage on Sunday afternoon, and at one point, the subject of the DC Extended Universe came up. A fan asked ifJames Gunnhas seen the current DC movies, and if he had any interest in directing a DC movie. As it turns out, the director has already had the opportunity to direct a DC Comics movie in the past, but he decided against it. Here is what he had to say.

“I thought there was some amazing action sequences in Man of Steel, but I haven’t seen the other two films. I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time.”

Gunndidn’t elaborate on exactly what property it was that he passed up on, and there is almost no clue given, so it is borderline impossible to even reasonably speculate. It isn’t even clear if he passed up on a DC movie before the currentDCEU movies, or if it was prior in theRyan Reynolds/Green Lanternera.Gunndid go on to reveal what DC Comics characters he would like to tackle if he ever decided to go down that road. Here is what he had to say.

“I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most IF I was into making one, and it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and Jonah Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”

We know thatShazam!is currently happening withDwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnsonset to star as Black Adam, andJonah Hexbombed in spectacular fashion a handful of years back.Josh Brolinhas said that he would be willing to giveJonah Hexanother shot though, so who knows? As forMetal MenorSwamp Thing? Those are wide open. Of the two, aSwamp Thingmovie would seem much more likely at some point and would fit very well withGunn’s sensibilities as a director, but again, these opportunities aren’t on the table, they are just properties and characters he enjoys.

James Gunnis known for only taking on projects that he feels particularly strongly about, which is why he is currently doingGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.Kevin Feigehas stated that there will be a thirdGuardiansinstallment at some point, butGunnhas said he isn’t sure if he will be back for that, which is fair, as he is probably a bit worn out from both of the massive productions from the first two movies. So will we see aJames Gunn/Swamp ThingDCEU movie in the future? Probably not, but it’s fun to think about.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2is set for release on July 10, 2025.
