It’s natural for fans ofDCandMarvelto engage in fun debates. There’s nothing wrong with sharing why you believe one has better productions than the other, or when they have films releasing closely, which will do better at the box office. However, it should always be for fun, and in no way, harmful conversation towards the actors or opposing fans. DC’sSupermanand Marvel’sTheFantastic Four: First Stepsare two highly anticipated upcoming moviesexpected to dominate the box officein July. WithSupermanreleasing on July 01, 2025, andTheFantastic Four: First Stepspremieringtwo weeks after, on July 23, 2025, fans are already discussing the box office battle.
One fan on Threads asked James Gunn his thoughts about the ongoing rival conversations between fans. User shubhang.fearless wrote, “Any word for your fellow July Superhero movie,TheFantastic Four, James? People are once again pitting Marvel and DC against each other withSupermanandTheFantastic Fourboth releasing in July @jamesgunn.” James gave one of the best replies, saying that he’d rather focus on the positivity surrounding both films than focus on anything negative. Gunn wrote:

“They come out two weeks after us — there’s room for both of us! I love my friends at Marvel. You can find whatever discussions you’d want to find online. I’d focus on all the positivity around the films instead of getting sucked up in online fan wars.”
‘Superman’ Opening Weekend Projections are Exactly What the DCU Needs - Sorry Snyder Fans
Projections for James Gunn’s live-action DCU debut suggest ‘Superman’ will soar to new heights this summer.
There are also lots of rumors surrounding the film, one of which James Gunn actually cleared up. Earlier this week, a rumor thatSuperman’s runtime was about2 hours and 2 minutes long caught the attention of fans and many outlets. According toNewsweek, the filmmaker responded to a supporter, writing on Threads, “That is not correct. It’s almost totally locked — meaning we’re just finishing a couple of VFX shots over the weekend — but that’s not the running time.” Gunn is the writer, producer and director ofSuperman, in addition to being co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios.

The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane,Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and more. The film follows Clark Kent/ Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive human family in Smallville, Kansas. Gunn talked about the importance of casting the right person for the role of the Superhero rather than just grabbing a big-name actor. According toIGN, he said, “I’ve always believed that the casting is the most important and that, as long as the actor is the best possible actor for that role, that’s more important than it is for a name… So I just wanted to go for who was the best Superman.”
James Gunn on Casting David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan
Back in the day, all you needed was a big-name actor for a movie to excel at the box office, but that’s not the case now. This is something James Gunn was well aware of when finding the right leads forSuperman. He talked about why Corenswet and Brosnahan were perfect for the leading roles.
A lot of people auditioned, and the weird thing is, I was so crazily nervous aboutgetting Superman ready, on [the] very first day of the tapes coming in, I had seen [David] Corenswet in Pearl. So … I said, ‘Get him on the tape.’ And then the very first day came in David’s tape and Rachel’s tape, and I saw both of those, and I went, ‘Oh my God, we’re going to be okay.’ Because both of these people are amazing.
