When people talk about aJason Stathammovie, the other people in the conversation likely understand what the film will include. There are probably some elaborate action sequences. Throw in some large weapons, jostling camera work, and a bad guy with some smooth dialogue with Statham punching at least multiple people and the movie can come to life. Whilenot every Statham movie is this way, his niche of action films is pretty consistent. Fans love Jason Statham movies because, even in movies where he is a highly skilled assassin (which is many), he can stillcome off as a relatable actor.

Statham’s characters have an “every man” quality to them and his hits just keep coming, as he hasbecome a box office juggernaut. He has been in massive blockbuster films, gritty indies, and starred alongside some of the greatest action stars of the past few decades. One thing about his movies that has been consistent, besides the amount of punches that are thrown, is that he seems to play characters with pretty absurd names. Here’s a list of some of Statham’s character names, ranked from only slightly strange to pretty wild.

Jason Statham in The Meg.

10Jonas Taylor

‘The Meg’ (2018)

The Megis a rarity for Statham because he’s not fighting other people. He’s fighting a prehistoric shark. His character, Jonas Taylor, is a rescue diver who must come to the aid of a submersible that’s being attacked by a Megalodon shark. Of course, Statham is able to outsmart the shark and even has an epic scene with it that sets off the creature’s demise.

Jonas Taylor sounds like the name of someone who has been around water for much of their life. While it is far from his most silly character name, it does just seem to work for this kind of role. The Megwas a huge success at the box office and spawned a sequel in 2023. Statham returned as Taylor, and that one was also a hit in the movies, proving that monster moviesare usually a safe bet at the box office.

9Handsome Rob

‘The Italian Job’ (2003)

Heist movies always have characters with absurd names. Usually, there’s someone on a crew who’s an ex-con with a ridiculous nickname. Evenin the original versionofThe Italian Jobfrom 1969, there’s a character named Camp Freddie. Forthe remake in 2003, Statham was cast as Handsome Rob, the crew’s getaway driver.

The Italian Job

As you can imagine, Handsome Rob was named such because he is successful with the ladies. A really imaginative nickname that almost feels like it is out of a Guy Ritchie movie (more on that to come later), Handsome Rob is kind of a silly name for someone who is in the same crew as Mark Wahlberg. Lucky for Statham, he doesn’t have the silliest name on the team. That would belong to the characters “Left Ear” and “Wrench.”

8Jensen Ames

‘Death Race’ (2008)

While not the craziest name he’s ever had, Jensen Ames is another character name that just seems made for Statham. Ames is his character inDeath Race, a campy action entry into his catalog. The movie takes place in a privatized prison that makes money from broadcasting car races that feature inmates racing for their potential freedom in armored cars. Other inmates are trying to kill them with weapons from their cars and by pushing them into obstacles around the track.

Death Race

Ames must fill in for a deceased fan-favorite rider named “Frankenstein.” That’s why Jensen Ames is also on this list. He has to go by Frankenstein in this film, adding to the craziness factor for a Statham character name. But the movie is agood watch for car fanatics. The most fun part about Frankenstein is that, in the beginning of the film, David Carradine reprises his role from the original film,Death Race 2000from 1975.

10 Jason Statham Movies To Stream on Prime Video

Prime Video has a bigger vault of Jason Statham movies than many other streaming service.

7Jasper Bagges

‘13’ (2010)

There’s no denying it:13is not a good film. Yet, here Statham is again, playing a guy with an atypical first name that begins with a J. Jasper Bagges is his character in this forgettable 2010 entry that is a remake of13 Tzameti. The film follows an underground game of Russian roulette that wealthy people bet on. Yet another movie where people are watching humans do dangerous things for sport (see the entry above.)

Jasper Bagges is a slimy character, who bets on his brother to win the tournament. The cast of this movie makes one believe it should be good, as it also features Sam Riley, Ray Winstone, Michael Shannon, David Zayas, Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent, and more. Statham is more of a supporting role in this film and it’s probably for the best that it’s not remembered by many, as Bagges is a forgettable character.

6Mason Hargreaves

‘Wrath of Man’ (2021)

The first character from a Guy Ritchie movie on this list is the character Statham plays inWrath of Man. For much of the movie, he goes by Patrick Hill. But it is later revealed that he is actually named Mason Hargreaves. Mason Hargreaves just sounds like a conniving person because, well, he is. He’s, in fact, a crime boss who is wronged and is allowed to right those wrongs by going undercover as Hill.

Wrath of Man

The really ridiculous character name in this film is Boy Sweat Dave, played by Josh Hartnett. Holt McCallany plays a character just simply named Bullet. But Mason Hargreaves is up there for a Statham name that will stand the test of time. Wrath of Man is also apretty solid action movieand worth a watch for any fan of robbery films.

5Deckard Shaw

‘Fast & Furious’ Franchise

Anyone who is a fan of Statham’s knew this name had to be on the list. Deckard Shaw is arguably one of Statham’s most famous characters, as he has portrayed him six times in various Fast & Furious films. His character is a terrific villain in the series and was even featured in the spin-offHobbs & Shaw. Deckard is ruthless and calculating with specialized skills coming from his past life as an MI6 agent.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Deckard Shaw ranks highly for Statham character names. But it barely scratches the top 10 for names in the Fast & Furious franchise. This is a franchise with many characters, many of whom are total badasses. Other names include Brixton Lore, Orange Julius, Slap Jack, Twinkie, and Fénix Calderón. Did we mention Deckard’s mom’s name is Queenie Shaw?

Jason Statham’s Non-Action Movies, Ranked

They may not offer the same level of bone-crunching thrills as his action roles, but these Jason Statham non-action movies are worth a watch!

4Orson Fortune

‘Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre’ (2023)

Another Guy Ritchie-led film with a silly character name, Orson Fortune is the main character in a movie with a title that includes his last name. A completely forgettable title for a movie that didn’t make its money back at the box office, Statham plays Orson Fortune, a spy that must get back a dangerous weapon before it is sold to the highest bidder.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre

Operation Fortunewill not go down as one of Ritchie or Statham’s best. But Statham spends much of the film in different suits looking sharp as a man with the last name of Fortune. Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, and Hugh Grant are along for the ride in this one. Plazadoes her best to stand outbut the action isn’t as good as other Ritchie/Statham collaborations and neither are the laughs. But the character name is funny enough.

3Chev Chelios

‘Crank’ (2006) and ‘Crank: High Voltage’ (2009)

As insane as theCrankfilms are, the name that Statham’s character has is just as wild. Chev Chelios is a hit man and, after being injected with a poison that is meant to slow his heart rate and kill him, he is forced to keep his heart rate up by doing things that will cause his adrenaline to spike. The series sees himgrab an electric fence, have sex in public, perform daring motorcycle tricks, take synthetic drugs, and more to keep his character going.

That character is named Chev. Is Chev short for something? It naturally is an alliterative character name as well so that it rolls off the tongue well. Nobody in real life would be named Chev Chelios. That’s what makes it one of the more ridiculous character names. The only reason it isn’t higher on the list is because Statham has many roles where he has just one name.

‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ (1998)

Statham’sfirst film role came inhis first collaboration with Guy Ritchie. It brought him international fame and set him on a path to star in many more films like this one.Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsfalls in line with the style that Ritchie has brought to films for years: caper films featuring memorable supporting characters, silly antics, and plenty of weapons. Statham’s first character he ever played on the big screen was simply named Bacon.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Bacon is a card shark who, along with friends named Soap, Eddie, and Tom, have to pay back a debt that they were conned into. The film is funny, dark, and filled with crime, and it gives the world its first look at Vinnie Jones as well. It’s never really explained why his character goes by Bacon. Maybe it’s his last name, like Kevin?

Jason Statham’s Best Action Movies, Ranked

Jason Statham’s name on an action marquee guarantees that you’re in for a high-octane thrill ride, with some British wisecracking to go with it.

‘Snatch’ (2000)

Turkish is unique for a character’s name in a British film, mostly because Statham doesn’t play a character from Turkey.Snatchwas Ritchie’s follow-up toLock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrelsand isshot in almost the same way. Everything in the film is dimly lit. Many of the characters are small-time crooks. Get-rich-quick schemes and backstabbing are central themes. Statham plays Turkish, a boxing promoter who is forced to sync up with Brad Pitt’s Mickey O’Neil for the next fight.

While plenty revolves around that fight, this film is one of the most iconic in terms of character names. Brick Top, Boris The Blade, Doug The Head, Frank Four-Fingers, Bullet Tooth Tony, and Gorgeous George are just some of the supporting roles in this film. The reason why Turkish is the top Statham character is because of how his character got his name. He says in the film that his parents were in a plane crash together and named him after the name of the plane. How could that reason not make it number one on the list?
