Following an accident that left him with painful burn injuries,Jay Lenodidn’t waste much time returning to the scene after his release from the hospital. On Nov. 12, Leno had been working on a vehicle in his Los Angeles garage when it suddenly burst into flames, causing serious burns to the funnyman’s face, chest, and hands. He underwent surgery and time spent in a hyperbaric chamber before he was released nine days later. Leno will continue to receive follow-up care at the Grossman Burn Center’s outpatient facility.

With his familiar denim outfit on, Leno can be seen back behind the wheel of an automobile in the first video shared of theJay Leno’s Garagehost after the unfortunate accident. Though Leno doesn’t chat long, he offers a smile and says he feels “very good” when asked how he’s feeling. You can watch the video below.

Jay Leno You Bet Your Life

In a separate video shared in a newTMZarticle, Leno has a bit more to say. He is similarly behind the wheel of a car as he pulls up to his L.A. garage, the same place where he’d been burned earlier this month. Leno also told the outlet that he didn’t want to spend any more time on the shelf, revealing that he’s going to be back to performing stand-up in front of a live crowd as early as this weekend.

“Everything’s okay,” Leno said in that video, adding that he’ll be at The Comedy & Magic Club on Sunday.

“I need barbecue!” he also jokingly said before driving away.

Jay Leno Was Saved by a Friend, Things Could Have Been Much Worse

Some new details have emerged on the accident that injured Leno. He was working on a 1907 White Steam Car when the incident happened. Leno was trying to repair clogged fuel lines when he was sprayed by gasoline on his face and hands. It was at that unfortunate moment when a spark caused the gasoline to erupt, seriously wounding Leno. His condition could have been much worse if not for his friend Dave who happened to be nearby, who extinguished the flames and likely saved the funnyman’s life in the process.

The accident itself was undoubtedly horrific to experience, andspending nine days in the hospitalfor recovery was probably no picnic. However, Leno had apparently kept his positive spirits throughout the entire ordeal. He was even said to be joking around with staff at the Grossman Burn Center and handing out cookies to other patients in the ward.

“Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes,” reads a statement shared by the burn center upon Leno’s release from the facility. “He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”

It had also been suggested that Leno could return to work within a few months, but as we’re now seeing, it’s turning out to be just a matter of days before he’ll be back on the stage.
