While the previous entries in theThor franchiseare not generally considered to be among the best standalone movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,Thor: Ragnarokis shaping up to be something very special. That is largely thanks to an incredibly impressive cast, which has addedJeff Goldblumas Grandmaster. The actor recently made a pretty interesting post to his Instagram which suggests that he is doing some research for his role in the upcoming third installment of theThorfranchise.

Goldblumposted a photo to hisInstagramon Friday, which showed him reading a copy ofThe Mighty Thor #374. Honestly just finding a copy of that book in as good of shape as it seems to be in would be impressive enough, but it is even more exciting to see the actor taking his new role so seriously. Or at the very least having enough fun with it to pay us all a little bit of fan service. Here is howGoldblumdecided to caption the photo.

“I’m nothing if not conscientious. #thorragnarok #thor3 #thegrandmaster #marvel #marvelcomics”

Goldblumisn’t the only excellent addition to the cast ofThor: Ragnarok. Joining him for this MCU adventure isKarl Urban, who will be playing the villainous Asgardian Skurge,CreedstarTessa Thompsonas Valkyrie and Oscar winnerCate Blanchettas the main villain Hela. Interestingly enough, the comic thatGoldblumjust so happens to be reading features Hela (as well as a guest appearance by the X-Factor team) and in the book, she makes it so that Thor’s bones are brittle and will no longer heal. Could this be a tease of something to come inThor: Ragnarok? It would no doubt be interesting. Just for fun, here is a super awesome and cryptic quote from Hela in the book.

“From this day forth, the mighty Thor, warrior ofAsgard, will fear to enter combat. For his bones are now as brittle as those of an old woman and when they break, they will not heal! Nor will you find respite in the arms of death, for I have cast you out! And the absence of death is eternal life! The god of thunder will life forever! Until his every waking desire shall be to die!”

So yeah, that might bepretty coolto see onscreen and it is easy to seeCate Blanchettabsolutely crushing dialogue like that. As for, Grandmaster, he is an ancient being with an unknown backstory who was created by comic legendsRoy ThomasandJohn Buscema, with the character making his first appearance inAvengers #69. The character is a master of all games of skill and chance and is a member of the Elders of the Universe. It is also very important to note that in the comics the character once possessed the Mind Gem, soGoldblumcould easily be our link to one of those missing Infinity Stones. No matter what, it is a role thatGoldblumwas seemingly born to play and should be a highlight of the movie.
