Jenna Ortega, star ofBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, Wednesday, and 2022’sScreamand its sequel,Scream VI,has revealed the next iconic franchise she would love to join, and it’s a beloved ’80s horror classic. Speaking to IMDb on the SXSW red carpet for the premiere of her new movie, A24’sDeath of a Unicorn, Ortega shared her hopes of one day sharing the screen with the monstrous Mogwais from theGremlinsmovies for a feature film revival, which, at this point, is 35 years on from the chaotic creatures last cinematic outing.

The revelation came in a video (below) when Ortega was asked about which mythical creature from her childhood she would like to see have a moment in the spotlight again. Perhaps not the best to be exposed to bright lights, but the actress landed on the scene-stealing furballs from theGremlinsfranchise. “You know what I used to love as a kid?Gremlins,” she said with a smile, adding that she “would love” and perhaps “should” be part of a third or fourthGremlinsmovie. Ortega then looked directly at the camera and added, “Call me.”

Joe Dante’s horror-comedyGremlinsis widely considered to be one of the ’80s most seminal movies, launching a franchise that would spawn a sequel, television series, video games, and plenty of merchandise.Gremlinswas a critical and commercial success upon its release, ranking as the fourth highest-grossing film of 1984 at the worldwide box office, behind other such classics asBeverly Hills Cop,Ghostbusters, andIndiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The follow-up feature,Gremlins 2: The New Batch, did not perform as well despite largely positive reviews from critics. It later developed a cult following, proving that there was continued interest in the franchise. Further evidence of that came with the release of Max’s animatedGremlinsseries,Secrets of the Mogwai and The Wild Batch, both of which have a 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
