Edward Burns isn’t just that handsome lad who co-starred in classic films likeSaving Private Ryan(1998) andThe Holiday(2006). The New York native has also stepped behind the lens to write and direct a number of acclaimed indie films over the years, with the latest turning out to be a bit of a star-studded affair thanks to big names like Patrick Wilson, Benjamin Bratt, Gretchen Mol, Minnie Driver, Morena Baccarin, andJulianna Marguliesgracing the screen.
The latter recently opened up to MovieWeb while promoting Burns’Millers in Marriage, which is now available in theaters and on digital, where she took time to sing the writer-director’s praises about his latest ensemble film’s end result. It’s an intricately woven marital drama thatfollows three grown siblingsresiding in the Empire State as they navigate their respective relationships, all equally on the rocks in their own unique but relatable ways. Love triangles, infidelity, forgotten dreams. Burns seems to cover the modern tropes of romance in this day and age with his new feature, which certainly tickled Margulies' fancy from the get-go.

“I really felt when I read [Millers in Marriage] that it really spoke to a mass audience,” she told us. “I didn’t when I didThe Good Wife. I didn’t think many people would be able to relate to [myGood Wifecharacter] Alicia Florrick because that was a specific situation, you know, that she was in, in a very public way.”

Margulies will perhaps forever be perceived as “the good wife” to TV fanatics, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. The Emmy-winning series continued to solidify her big-name status in Hollywood, and Margulies took time in our interview to connect that long-running small-screen experience to her latest outing with writer-director Burns. And wouldn’t you know it — herMillers in Marriagecharacter Maggie may be one of her juiciest since her days onThe Good Wife. Said Margulies:
“Once you’ve done [The Good Wife], you kind of want to keep the work good, and that’s how I found [Millers in Marriage]. I loved this script right away. And I knew Ed a little bit. I had never worked with him. I was very aware of all his work and his films. I’ve loved all of them, but I also know a lot of people who know him, and they all had the same reaction, which was:He’s just the best guy ever.”

“And the older I get and the more I work in this industry, to me, the most important thing is enjoying your experience of the work,” added Margulies, “not necessarily the end product, because what you walk away with is the experience of the film. And so the second I, you know, was given the script, and then I met him, I just was so happy to do it.“From Republic Pictures,Millers in Marriageis now available in theaters and on digital.
