Keanu Reevesis now best-known for his role as the action icon John Wick but, with the actor having wrapped up that particular saga with 2023’sJohn Wick: Chapter 4, he is now “aching” to return as another fan-favorite character. The character in question happens to also be called John, DC’s paranormal investigatorJohn Constantine, with Reeves commenting on the long-awaited sequel to his 2005 comic book movie on this, it’s 20th anniversary.

Updates on the development ofConstantine 2have been dripping through over the last few years and, during a recent appearance on theHappy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves revealed that conversations are happening. And he cannot wait to (hopefully) finally give Constantine his highly anticipated comeback in what he calls “definitely in the realm of feeling worthy of being the next chapter.”

“It’s just fun to be in the same room and talk Constantine. Just everyone riffing and just, you know what (writer) Akiva (Goldsman) and Francis have come up with, and the ideas. I’m aching to play this guy.”

Does ‘Constantine 2’ Have a Place in the DCU?

Released back in 2005, and based on the DC comic “Hellblazer,” the firstConstantinewas helmed by Francise Lawrence and followsThe MatrixandJohn Wickstar Keanu Reevesas an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift. He can see the spirits of good and evil that live among us. But it’s a responsibility that he cannot stand and, after being damned to spend the afterlife in Hell, Constantine must atone for his actions, becoming a detective of the occult and the paranormal.

WhileConstantinewas met with mixed reactions upon release (46% from critics against 72% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes), the DC outing has since garnered a passionate following, with the sequel having been invarious stages of development over the years. Details of the project remain unknown at present, but it is expected that Reeves will return alongside director Francis Lawrence. However, things have changed in the world of DC, with James Gunn and Peter Safran heading up thenewly recalibrated DCU. So, is there a place for Keanu Reeves’ iteration of Constantine?

Quite honestly, we came out of the first [movie] loving the process, not loving the fact that we got an R, but we thought if we’re going to get an R, let’s embrace that. Let’s do the R-rated, scarier version of a Constantine sequel."
