“There’s more to the legend” in SyFy’s upcomingSupermanprequel seriesKrypton, which has finally been given a premiere date. The series was announced initially in 2014 and has spent a very long time in development. That lengthy development process ultimately resulted inKryptonbeing picked up by Syfy and now, we finally know when we can actually see this thing for ourselves. Thanks to a newly released motion poster, it’s been revealed thatKryptonwill debut on March 21.
The motion poster features a backdrop of the iconicSupermansymbol, which is actually his family’s crest from the planetKrypton. The tagline is then slowly revealed, with the March 21 premiere date making its way across the bottom.DC fanswill want to plan their Wednesday nights accordingly in 2018. That is, assuming the show is actually worth watching, which isn’t yet clear, but it’s at the very least something that hasn’t been explored, at least not this far back, on screen before.

Kryptonhas been featured inSupermanmovies before. Zack Snyder opened upMan of Steelwith the destruction of the planet. This series, however, goes back much further, as it’s set two generations before the destructionSuperman’s home planet. The series follows his grandfather, whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. The show will focus on his fight to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. We know he doesn’t succeed at this, ultimately, but we get to watch him give it his best shot.
Kryptonis executive produced by David S. Goyer, writer ofThe Dark KnightandMan of Steel, who also wrote the pilot for the series. Does this mean it will actually be canon in the current DC movie universe? It’s set far enough back in the timeline that it’s possible for that to be the case. Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead) has been tapped as the showrunner. The cast includesCameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa, Aaron Pierre as Dev-EM, Ian McElhinney as Val-El, Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange and Blake Ritson, who will play iconicSuperman villain Brainiacin the series.
Though this show won’t be connected to the Arrowverse shows on The CW, there is a lot of DC stuff on TV right now. On Wednesday nights, as it stands,Kryptonwon’t be competing with any other DC shows, which is probably for the best. SyFy has alreadypicked up Krypton to series, which means we’ll at least be seeing a full season of the show, barring something absolutely disastrous.
