Fans ofGroundhog Dayundoubtedly remember Ned Ryerson… not that he’d ever let anyone forget. “Needlenose Ned, Ned the head… come on, buddy!” Well, actor Stephen Tobolowsky recently reprised the role he made famous in the 1993 Bill Murray-led comedy. And now, thanks to Lay’s, the guy who performed the “whistling belly button trick” at Case Western High is trapped reliving his own Groundhog Day at a local grocery store. And fans are loving the wildly inventive potato chip ads — all eight of them to be exact. Check outHappy Groundhog Lay’s, courtesy of the one and only Ryan Reynolds below:

According to a press release fromFrito-Lay, theGroundhog Day-inspired commercials were the “first-ever daylong timeloop ad takeover on ABC.” And fans are enchanted by the ads which they’re sounding off about on social media.@MeshellMwrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter:

@LAYS love the Groundhog Day ads with Stephen Tobolowsky ‘Ned Ryerson’ so funny. Made me grab my bag of Lay’s I just bought. 😊

@rhondamintonresponded with a little Groundhog Day wordplay:

…The “Groundhog Day” commercials airing repeatedly on Groundhog Day are wicked clever. Well done!

This would make an excellent series of Super Bowl ads! You’re just watching them thinking, oh, I’ve already seen this one. No wait, that’s not what happened last time. Slowly going crazy with each one…

Hey wood-chuck-chuckers, it’s Groundhog Day!

Reliving Lay’s Groundhog Day Ads

On February 2, ABC presented a day-long campaign featuring eightGroundhog Day-inspired commercials following Ned Ryerson actorStephen Tobolowskyas he relives buying eight different flavors of Lay’s potato chips from a friendly cashier named Lulu. And the clerk is none other thanIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’sArtemis Pebdani. However, the longer the day goes on, the snarkier Tobolowsky becomes. But fans don’t care because they love the ads. @JoshMarino420 posted Ned Ryerson’s famous “bing” GIF on X, formerly Twitter, below:

Getting Stephen Tobolowsky to do this was a stroke of genius, and I actually watched all eight of these. Mission accomplished

According to the same press release from Frito-Lay, “the spirited creative endeavor was developed in collaboration with Ryan Reynolds’ production and marketing company, Maximum Effort and Jimmy Kimmel’s creative lab, KIMMELOT.” Now, while most of the internet is responding favorably to the Lay’s ads, there are some who are already getting tired of seeing Ned Ryerson’s adventures at his local grocery store.@markolwickwrote on X:

@LAYS I love your chips, but I hate your latest commercial. It is a Groundhog Day nightmare.

For those fans who haven’t seen the lateHarold Ramis' 1993 classic,Groundhog Day, it is streaming on AMC+ at the time of this writing. The cast also features the talents of Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, Brian Doyle-Murray, and, of course, the film’s star, Bill Murray.
