Last week, Disney Pixar dropped thefirst trailerfor their highly-anticipated animated sequelCars 3, which brings back the iconic race car Lightning McQueen to the big screen. The trailer didn’t show much footage, but it did reveal that Lightning was involved in what looked like a very serious crash on the track, along with the tagline, ““From this moment everything will change.” That tagline is featured again in the first poster, which also gives us another look at Lightning literally turned upside down.
The poster comes fromYahoo! Movies, which also confirms thatLarry the Cable Guywill return as the beloved tow truck Mater, alongsideBonnie Huntas Sally. It has also been confirmed that this animated sequel will introduce two new characters, Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm, although it hasn’t been announced who will voice these characters quite yet. Pixar hasn’t announced when the first full trailer will arrive, but with the debut of this poster, the full trailer’s debut may be just around the corner.
Back in May, we got our first look at Cruz Ramirez through newconcept art, with this character coming aboard as Lightning McQueen’s new trainer. It was revealed that Lightning needs to stay competitive with the young crop of racers like Jackson Storm, who is said to have “trounced” McQueen in one of the races. DirectorBrian Feeteased this summer that some are wondering if Lightning may be getting ready to retire, since he is now one of the “older cars on the circuit.”
Cruz is trying to whip Lightning into shape for a huge race known as the Florida 500, which is the equivalent of the iconic NASCAR race the Daytona 500.Brian Feealso revealed that Cruz is trying to get McQueen to adapt to this new high-tech style of racing, as they prepare for this epic race of a lifetime. We don’t know exactly when the crash shown in thenew posterand teaser trailer happens in the movie, but hopefully we’ll get more details soon.
