In fact, it was reported in 2022 that Rawson Marshall Thurber, director of the hit filmRed Notice, had been assigned to write and direct the live-actionVoltronfilm. However, it was still in the development stage, so many speculated it might even be canceled, especially given the complexity involved in producing these projects.

Despite being reportedly overwhelmed withRed Noticesequels in 2022, Thurber pitched the idea of a live-actionVoltronfilm to several studios, and it was eventually picked up by Amazon MGM Studios, which also producedFallout, the phenomenal post-apocalyptic TV seriesbased on a video game franchise. As a result, the upcoming live-action version may turn out to be far better than many fans of the long-running franchise expect.

Voltron, the original animated series that aired from 1984 to 1985, was previously rebooted on Netflix in 2016 under the titleVoltron: Legendary Defender.
