Marry Meis a 2022 rom-com that perfectly combines a touching love story with a soundtrack packed with songs fit to be on any radio station. This film was directed by Kat Coiro and based ona graphic novelby Bobby Crosby, which was adapted to film by John Rogers, Tami Sagher, and Harper Dill.Marry Meis one of many films that wasaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and for that reason its release was delayed for a year, finally hitting theaters in February 2022,just before Valentine’s Day. The movie follows Kat (Lopez), a pop superstar about to marry Bastian (Maluma), a fellow music star, in an event broadcast to millions of people. But just moments before they are set to tie the knot, a video of the man cheating on Kat with her assistant goes viral. The star, disappointed, opts to seize the moment and marry Charlie (Wilson), a math teacher in the audience holding a sign that reads “Marry Me.” Charlie doesn’t even know the performer, and the poster actually belongs to his friend. Yet somehow, he does say “I do” and is swept up in a wild adventure in which he, along with Kat, discovers a whole new layer of love. Since some of the main characters are music stars, it is not surprising that the soundtrack of this production is bursting with hits. Here are the best of them.
“Church”, performed by Lopez, is the opening song of the show in which Kat will marry Bastian, and it also kicks off this ranking. It is an excellent tune to start the concert on a high note, especially for its staging and choreography, allowing both Lopez and the dancers to show off their talents. The song talks about her excitement about getting married and how good it feels to be in love. The audience goes wild for the show, except for Charlie, who finds the outfits Kat and her dancers are wearing quite revealing for a church-themed song, and jokingly tries to cover his daughter’s eyes so that she won’t see them.

This is the second song in Kat and Bastian’s pre-wedding show inMarry Me, and it is of vital importance not only because of its lyrics but also for the moment in which it is being sung. The lyrics of “1 en 1 Million” refer to cheating on someone even when you love them, and that’s exactly what happened with Bastian when he cheated on Kat. This song is playing in the background when the video of him cheating on Kat goes viral, and with the whole audience knowing what’s going on, the singer is pressured to make a quick decision concerning her future.
After Charlie and Kat’s rushed wedding, these two have a chance to get to know each other, and they discover that they share more things in common than they ever imagined. Eventually, their fictional relationship becomes a real one. But all of this is put in jeopardy after “Marry Me,” the song she wrote with Bastian, gets nominated for a Grammy Award, bringing the ex-couple back together for several performances. This situation makes Charlie very insecure, but he decides to leave his hesitation aside and stand by his beloved. During the celebration party after the show, Bastian seizes the opportunity to sing “Segundo,” a song about second chances in love. After listening to it, prey to his insecurity, Charlie resolves to break off the relationship with Kat.

Still grieving over her breakup with Bastian, Kat tries to move on with her life, and slowly uncovers her crush on Charlie. When he invites her to his daughter’s school dance as a chaperone, she doesn’t even hesitate and treats herself to a night out like a normal person, away from the cameras and her assistants. At one point in the evening, Kat sings this song from her teenage years that talks about feeling uncertain after a breakup. Both Kat and Charlie enjoy their date, topped off with a walk under the stars and a night spent at the man’s house.

“Marry Me” is the title song, composed by Kat and Bastian for their wedding announcement. “On My Way” ranks at the top of this list as the best song in the movieMarry Me. From the beginning of the film, Kat is working on composing lyrics for a melody. She eventually entrusts this problem to Lou, who suggests she should “sit on the question, and the solution would find her soon enough”. And so it was: after breaking up with Charlie, and with her feelings on edge, Kat composes this song about her journey and everything that helped her find true love, a tune that turns out to be even more popular than “Marry Me”. Thanks to this song, the singer discovers how important Charlie is to her, and sets out for Illinois to join her husband and his daughter at the mathalon. Once there, in a great romantic gesture, she asks Charlie to re-marry her, and they both give love another chance.
