The third episode ofSupergirlSeason 2, “Welcome to Earth”, airs on The CW tonight at 8 PM ET, but if you need something to tide you over until then, three new clips have been unveiled. The first clip gives us a new look atLynda Carteras the President of the United States, Olivia Marsdin, who gets attacked by an unseen enemy. Thankfully, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) is there to save the President’s life. We also see the President getting introduced to the DEO and another scene with Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) visiting a local bar in his true alien form.
This new episode follows an attack made on the President (guest star Lynda Carter) as hot-button, alien vs. human rights issues heat up in National City.Supergirl(Melissa Benoist) and the DEO are assigned to protect the President and bring in the responsible party. Alex (Chyler Leigh) teams up with Detective Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) to investigate the case while Kara searches for a recently escaped Mon-El (Chris Wood), who she fears may be the alien behind the assault.
Speaking ofMon-El,Entertainment Weeklycaught up with executive producerAndrew Kreisbergabout this episode. While Project Cadmus has essentially declared war on all aliens, President Marsdin is trying to ease tensions between aliens and humans. Here’s what the executive producer had to say below about this newSupergirlSeason 2 episode.
“He’s the prime suspect [of being] this assassin that’s trying to kill the president. The last thing Mon-El remembers is being on an alien world, he jumped into a pod, and suddenly he wakes up on a strange world. He’s all alone, he’s surrounded by people with guns and he’s having a reaction. He’s reacting to the fact that he suddenly has superpowers, which he wasn’t expecting. How that story weaves about and how he and Kara come together by the end is hopefully pretty clever and interesting. We’re going to explore, in our universe, the idea that Daxam andKryptonwere sister worlds, but they didn’t really get along. As somebody says, it’s sort of the Hatfields and the McCoys, so there’s a lot of innate hostility that Mon-El and Kara have for each other simply because of their backgrounds, which is interesting because Kara is not exactly on her best behavior. We always think Kara is so interesting when she’s flawed and watching her learn and grow.”
Andrew Kreisbergalso added that Mon-El will eventually help Kara fulfill her original mission to look out forSuperman(Tyler Hoechlin) this season, but as of now, it remains unclear whether Mon-El can be trusted. We’ll have to wait and see how Kara and Mon-El’s relationship continues to evolve after tonight’s episode ofSupergirlSeason 2.
