Like most of you guys out there, one of my favorite current TV shows is Netflix and director David Fincher’s stellar serial killer seriesMindhunter. The show already has plans for a third season but today we’re hearing that it is being placed on hold while Fincher works on his new Netflix biographyMankstarringThe Dark Knight RisesandBram Stoker’s Draculaactor Gary Oldman andMean GirlsandMamma Mia!actress Amanda Seyfriend.

It might be worth it in the end as Fincher’s new movie sounds like just my cup of tea. Evidently, theNetflixbiography is all set to star Oldman as Herman Mankiewicz, the screenwriter behind director Orson Welles' masterpieceCitizen Kane. David Fincher is said to be taking the helm of the film from - get this heartwarming bit - a screenplay that was written by his father before he died back in 2003. Aww, David Fincher is such a sweetheart.

Along with Oldman and Seyfried, Fincher’sMankis also set to star Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton, Toby Leonard Moore, Tom Burke, and Tom Pelphrey. Fincher plans to begin shooting the black and white feature in November. Meanwhile, his last flick was his adaptation of author Gillian Flynn’s hit thriller novelGone Girlstarring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.

But back toMindhunterfor a moment. The series is based onMindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unitby John Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Fincher is responsible for bringing the stellar series to the screen along with the help ofMad Max: Fury RoadandThe Fate of the Furiousactress Charlize Theron. It centers ontwo FBI agents and a psychologistwho interview imprisoned serial killers such as Charles Manson and Edmund Kemper to learn how their minds work and how they can apply that knowledge to catching future murderers, such asThe BTK Killer. It really is hands-down one of the best shows on TV. Streaming or otherwise. Watch it tonight if you’ve been putting it off.

Anyways, for all of this talk about puttingMindhunteron hold forMankthere is strangely no mention ofDavid Fincher’s Chinatown prequel series, which the director is said to be co-writing along with the original film’s screenwriter Robert Towne. Sure that project, which will focus on a young Jake Gittes, is in the very early stages of development, and Fincher has not been confirmed to direct or anything, it still seems like a project that will take up a good amount of his time as well. But maybe theChinatownseries will just have to wait untilMindhunterseason 3 is in the can. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, this story comes to us from The Hollywood ReporterThe Hollywood Reporter.
