As James Gunn’sSupermancontinues to dominate the box office, fans on social media are going nuts for not only the Man of Steel, but for Justice Gang member Mister Terrific, who is expertly portrayed byEdi Gathegi. However, before he donned the T mask and “Fair Play” jacket, fans fell in love with the breakout star thanks to a string of other roles, including one in Apple TV+’s sci-fi epic,For All Mankind, which – if we’re being honest – is one of the best science fiction shows ever created.

Featuring an ensemble cast made up of the likes of Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, and Jodi Balfour,For All Mankindis set in an alternate history where the Soviet Union was the first to land on the moon, and the space race never ended. Each season focuses on a different decade as technology advances, with Season 1 being set in the 70s, Season 2 in the 80s, Season 3 in the 90s, and Season 4 in the 2000s.

For All Mankind: Why Space Enthusiasts Should Watch the Apple TV+ Show

For All Mankind is one of the best hidden gems on Apple TV+ and perfect for the space nerd in all of us, with the show’s third season coming June 10.

Gathegi joinedFor All Mankindin Season 3, which aired in 2022, taking on the role of visionary billionaire Dev Ayesa, the co-founder of a private space company whose goal is to reach Mars before NASA or the Soviet Union. Sound familiar? Along the way, he forms a working relationship with VanSanten’s Karen Baldwin, who by then had launched the space hotel known as Polaris, which underwent its own challenges before she sold it to Ayesa. Together, they gather a crew to lead the mission to Mars, and over the course of Seasons 3 and 4, Gathegi’s character goes on an internal journey from a wide-eyed explorer to a ruthless entrepreneur who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He’s not a villain per se, but he is someone with questionable morals that lead him to make some controversial decisions at the expense of others.

‘For All Mankind’ Constantly Refreshes Itself to Never Grow Stagnant

Renewed for Season 5 in 2024,For All Mankindhas consistently been one of the best sci-fi shows on television, not only for the wayit accurately depicts space exploration, but for its rich character development and the way it’s structured. With each season consisting of a major time jump, the show constantly feels fresh, and the people in it never grow stagnant. We get to watch as their lives unfold in unexpected ways, and see them blossom over decades rather than just weeks or years like in a traditional series.

Fans and critics have also been impressed withFor All Mankind, as it currently holds a fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an audience score of 82%. Called “sci-fi in its truest sense” by some, and “one of the greatest science fiction shows of the 21st Century” by others, there’s no date yet for when Season 5 will make its long-awaited premiere, but it’s safe to say we could see it hit Apple TV+ either late 2025, or (realistically) at some point in 2026. Filming on the next season wrapped in December 2024, so now it’s a matter of adding in all the bells and whistles in post-production, of which there is a lot of considering the setting.

That being said, fans can also look forward to a spin-off titledStar City, which is also on the horizon. The series will show things from the Soviet perspective, examining their space program and the lives of cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers. Like Season 5 ofFor All Mankind, that one is also expected to premiere at some point in 2026.

As for Gathegi, he’s expected to return as Dev Ayesa in the new season, as he played a key role in the events that helped shape Season 4. Even with the time jump to the 2010s, his character is still young enough to be a featured player, so it will be interesting to see how he factors into the future of Kuznetsov Station.
