My Name is Earlpremiered on NBC in 2005 and featured Jason lee as the titular character, who gets hit by a car shortly after discovering his lottery ticket has won him $100,000 (and essentially loses the ticket). While in the hospital, watching Carson Daly, Earl learns about karma and realizes that he needs to turn his life around by doing good deeds. As a result, he makes a list of all the bad things he’s done and the people that he’s wronged, and vows to correct his mistakes. Upon committing his first deed, he stumbles upon his lost lottery ticket and ultimately becomes convinced of the efficacy of karma.

Jaime Presslystarred as Joy, Earl’s wife. Pressly was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the series, and also won the Emmy forOutstanding Supporting Actressin a Comedy Series in 2007. She has continued to act since the series ended, most notably inMom, in which she would appear regularly. Pressly also appeared in titles such asJennifer Falls, but has steadied her career since it’s peak. She has also given birth to two twin sons and spends her time raising them.
Jason Leestarred as the title role, and also enjoyed much success from his portrayal of Earl. He was nominated for a Golden Globe twice for his performance, but has taken a step back from the limelight after the success of the series. He found work in voice acting, appearing in shows such asAmerican DadandMarvel Super Heroes. He is set to make a return inTwilight of the Mallrats, perLooper, a sequel to his breakthrough filmMallrats.
