Daniel Craig will return inJames Bond 25, but we’re still not sure if Moneypenny will be returning for his last go as 007.Naomie Harriswas introduced as the new Moneypenny inSkyfall, which remains the highest-grossing and arguably most beloved Bond movie to date. However, Harris is still unsure if she’s going to be invited back for the next adventure, even though she’s hopeful and waiting for the call.
The actress recently appeared on an episode ofThe Graham Norton Showto promote her latest movieRampage, which hits theaters this weekend. During the course of the conversation, the subject of her possible return inJames Bond 25came up. Naomie Harris says sheknows nothing about the upcoming sequel, but she’s clear her schedule to make sure she’s available if they do want her back. Here’s what she had to say about it.
“I know nothing. I don’t know if I am in it, but I do know they start shooting at the end of the year. I have cleared my diary in anticipation but I don’t know.”
WhileMGM hasn’t yet revealed official production datesforJames Bond 25, the movie is currently slated for release on July 28, 2025. So shooting at the end of this year would make sense. Daniel Craig recently made it clear that his fifth turn as Bond is his next movie project, so his schedule appears to be clear as well. But much like Naomie Harris, few people know much of anything about the follow-up to 2015’sSpectre. And there may be a few good reasons for that. One of which is the fact that a new script is currently being worked on by John Hodge (Trainspotting), due to Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) pitching his own vision for the movie and coming on board as a director.
The studio has yet to confirm Boyle’s involvement, but the director has confirmed his plans to tackle the movie and a recent report indicated his deal is done. Then there’s MGM. Why haven’t they made some sort of formal announcement beyond the release date forJames Bond 25? It recently came to light that they may be looking to sell their company to a larger studio, most likely Sony, and are using the007 franchiserights as bait. If true, that means they also have the appealing package of Daniel Craig and Danny Boyle to include as part of the sale.
But what ofMoneypenny? Even though there’s a new script being worked on, it seems highly unlikely that Naomie Harris' character won’t be included. Unfortunately, Christoph Waltz has already made it clear that he won’t be back as Blofeld, despite the fact thatSpectreset up his potential return quite well. Hopefully, with production scheduled to begin in a handful of months, we can get some more firm details onJames Bond 25and get properly excited about Daniel Craig’s swan song as the world famous MI6 agent.
