Following the likes ofThe Night Agent, this year’sMercy for None, and more,Netflixhas seemingly found more success with its latest foray into action. The new Netflix original series starts with a simple premise, asking “what if firearms suddenly flooded in a gun-free country?” and it seems that such a question is not only one that audiences are eager to see answered, it’s also been answered well, with the action thriller show landing a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Created by Kwon Oh-seung, who garnered significant attention following the debut of his crime thrillerMidnightat the Fantasia International Film Festival, the new Netflix action thriller series in question is calledTrigger, and follows veteran actor Kim Nam‑gil (Song of the Bandits, The Fiery Priest) as a former sniper-turned-detective who is forced to team up with Kim Young-kwang’s (Somebody, Call It Love) slippery and unpredictable crook when illegal firearms begin to enter South Korea in huge numbers. As you’d expect, much gunfire and bullet dodging ensue.

‘Trigger’ Has a Perfect Score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

As previously mentioned,Triggerboasts arare rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising the arguably rather ridiculous high concept for the way it’s used to make a point about how quickly a seemingly civilized society can collapse. “Triggeris a name that has more than one meaning in the context of this series. For one, it’s indicating that a lot of guns are going to be found and used on the show. But the more important meaning behind the title is the trigger point that the people who will have those guns will experience, one that takes them from everyday aggravated people to mass murderers,” said Joel Keller of Decider.

Jonathon Wilson of Ready Steady Cut, meanwhile, said, “The most provocative idea, though, is that the entire country is on the cusp of going postal, and if access to firearms were unchecked, chaos would descend almost immediately. The obvious parallels to America are made early – how can a developed nation so cavalierly and consistently see its citizens butcher each other?” Finally, Chris Joyce of Movies and Munchies awarded the series 4/5, and said any shortcomings you might find are eclipsed by the action on display, which delivers “heart-pounding and gut-wrenching sequences that will pucker your butt thanks to the extreme anxiety.”
