The finale of Netflix’slimited seriesEchoespresents fans with a final mystery regarding the identities of twin sisters Gina and Leni. We find out in the last episode that Gina survives jumping off a waterfall in an attempt to escape from her controlling sister Leni. We see one of the sisters in an airport, presenting a fake passport with a different name, headed to Australia. This sister finds out that a woman who looked just like her had booked a flight to Kansas the morning before. But which sister is headed to Australia, and which one went to Kansas?
Some time has passed, and Charlie, Gina’s husband, has published a book about Leni and Gina. Telling their story about them switching lives and everything that was revealed about what they had done and what had happened between them. One of the sisters appears at the book reading and asks Charlie a question. Later, at Charlie’s house, we see one ofthe sisterswith Charlie, but she claims it wasn’t her at the book reading, and even Charlie isn’t sure which sister is visiting him.

So who is who? Read on to explore the possibilities and unpack thefinale ofEchoes.
Who Was at the Airport?
To figure out which sister was at the airport, various factors and clues must be taken into account. The fact thatthe destinationof the sister we see at the airport is Australia gives us the first hint that this sister is most likely Leni. After leaving the café where she meets with Paula, Leni stops by her daughter’s school to say goodbye to her. She tells Mattie that she has to go away for a while and specifically mentions that she has to leave the country. The two destinations of the sisters are Kansas and Australia. This is perhaps the biggest indicator that it is Leni we see in the airport, leaving the country. And here, she discovers that Gina is indeed alive and has fled to Kansas.

Another indicator that this sister is Leni is the fact that she asked where the other woman that looked like her was headed. Leni, throughout the series, has shown a strong desire to control everything about Gina and her life. Even going so far as to install cameras in Gina’s home and track her wherever she goes. Therefore, Leni would be more inclined to want to know where Gina was. While Gina still loves her sister, her desire to escape and be free from Leni might prevent her from asking this question. Gina would be more likely not to want to know and leave everything behind once and for all.
Who Was at the Book Reading?
One of the sisters makes an appearance at Charlie’s book reading, and later we see one of the sisters at his home. She claims it wasn’t her at the reading, and Charlie tells her he will find out who she really is. She responds, “Maybe. Maybe even I don’t know anymore.” Then he asks her why she came back, and she tells him that she has scores to settle, and she is starting with him. Exploring these final lines of the show could indicate which sister is with him and who was at the book reading.
Gina’s score to settle with Charlie might be about him figuring out that the sisters switched lives. And instead of confronting Gina about it, he accepted it and played along. He even seemed to encourage it by claiming that he hadlearned to love them both. But he never sought to understand why she was doing this or if this was what she really truly wanted. Gina might have felt betrayed by this. Although she was the one deceiving him initially, as her husband, she likely believed that he was the one person truly in her corner. His assumptions and passiveness in the situation encouraged Leni’s ability to control Gina and her life.

This might have led Gina to resent Charlie for not wanting to know why they were switching. Or even possibly feeling unwanted by Charlie since he didn’t seem to care which sister he was with or love his wife more than her sister. He could have stopped this and gotten to the bottom of what Gina really wanted if he had only said something to her sooner.
On the other hand, Leni’s score to settle with Charlie would probably be a bit more sinister. Leni could possibly be going after everyone who ruined her life and is seeking to get control back. Leni’s need for control has led her to commit a number of crimes on behalf of “protecting” her sister and their secret, even if it meant damaging Gina’s reputation. And since Charlie went along with their switching, Leni might feel like he is the only person that she can really trust to help her get what she wants, and that is Gina.
However, Leni may also believe that he is the only person left that Gina cares about enough to threaten and draw Gina out of hiding. Whether she asks him for help or threatens him, Leni’s intentions are more manipulative, whereas Gina might be seeking closure.
The fact that the sister with Charlie at the end refused to reveal who she was indicates that it is more likely to be Leni, who enjoyed the arrangement they had and wanted to keep up the charade of being both Gina and Leni. Gina would be more inclined to reveal her identity since she so badly wanted to be separate from Leni and be her own person and live her own life. However, after having pretended for so long and assuming a fake identity to go into hiding, it is still possible it could be Gina simply unsure of who she really is by the end of the series.
