The Movie (And Songs) of the Summer
KPop Demon Huntershas been one of the biggest sensations of the summer movie season and has broken out into the cultural zeitgeist in a way many Netflix Originals struggle. It has become themost popular Netflix animated film of all time, and is the first animated original film to enter Netflix’s Most Popular Movies List (English). The soundtrack has become a sensation, with “Golden” hitting #1 on theBillboardHot 100 while “Your Idol” reached number one on the US Spotify chart on July 19, 2025. The movie’s soundtrack is the first of 2025 to reach the top 10 of theBillboard200, impressive considering this year also had the critically acclaimedSinners.
Netflix is going all-in onKPop Demon Hunters, in what many are calling Netflix’s answer to Disney’sFrozen.A recent report says Netflix is already developing sequels, and while it also suggested the streamer was considering a live-action film, that has seemingly been denied. This sing-along screening, which was successful forWicked, demonstrates Netflix’s long-term potential inK-pop Demon Huntersas a brand, willing to give it even a small theatrical release.

KPop Demon Huntersnow feels all but guaranteed as a major Oscar frontrunner. It is currently the movie to beat for the Best Animated Film award, while songs like “Golden,” “Your Idol,” and “How It’s Done” could all be Best Original Song nominees. With bothKPop Demon HuntersandSinnershaving incredible soundtracks with great songs that could all justify a Best Original Song nomination, it could make for an exciting showdown at the 98th Academy Awards next year. For now, though, fans can enjoyKPop Demon Huntersthe way many fans hoped to see it, on the big screen and to sing-along tothe film’s many great songs.
