The Night AgentSeason 2 saw the return of lead characters Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan). But it also introduced fans to an entirely new supporting cast of characters. Not all of them survived to the end, but some of them did. And that includes one stand-out character that fans feel like they have only just scratched the surface of learning about.
This character proves to be fierce, confident, and understanding while also morally sound yet tough. She has been through a lot, and it shows. But she can also handle herself well. Given the way the season ended, it’s likely she returns. And fans hope that is the case.

The Night Agent
Who Is Catherine Weaver in ‘The Night Agent’ and What Is Her Relation to Peter?
Catherine Weaver, played by Amanda Warren, is Peter’s new superior in his position as a Night Action agent. She seemingly runs the entire program and is in charge of recruitment, managing missions, and running damage control as needed. For all intents and purposes, she’s the handler of the Night Action agents and program who wields tremendous power.
When Peter’s first mission goes wrong and their positions are compromised, she is the one Peter calls when the extraction point is compromised. However, he is also suspicious of her, wondering if Catherine might be a mole. This stems from his previous relationship withDiane Farr (Hong Chau)in Season 1, a mentor and boss who, as it turns out, betrayed him.

Netflix Welcomes Back ‘The Night Agent’ With a Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Debut for Season 2
‘The Night Agent’ was one of Netflix’s huge streaming hits in 2023, and now Season 2 looks set to do it all again with a bigger and better Season 2.
Catherine understands his feelings and she has her own reservations about Peter, too. When they first meet before he embarks on the program, she gives him the opportunity to leave and go back to his old life. She does not believe he’s ready nor that he has been properlyand sufficiently trainedto go out into the field. She makes it clear that he is only on her team because it was an order directly from President Travers (Kari Matchett). She didn’t have a choice, but he does. And Catherine thinks Peter should quit. But Peter is not about to give up on his dream and the chance to prove himself worthy.

There’s another reason she lacks confidence in Peter. As shown in a flashback, during a case where she was working with a partner when she was a field agent herself, her partner died, and she was almost killed. Catherine managed to take down the assailant and was told by the then director, in a cameo by Robert Patrick reprising his role as Jamie Hawkins, that he wanted her to continue pursuing the case.It involved an FBI mole the man was working with. His name was Peter Sutherland, Peter’s father.
Why Catherine Is the Best Character in ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2
Throughout the series, Catherine shows many sides of herself. But beneath her tough exterior and expressionless tone, she has a huge heart. She truly cares about people. She’s a much better mentor to Peter than Diane Farr (Hong Chau), who ended up betraying Peter. When Catherine receives Alice’s (Brittany Snow) ashes, she takes them to her cousin. There, she learns that Alice cut all ties with her family when she joined Night Action. This was a requirement of the job, and sadly, the cousin claims that he didn’t really know her at all. Because of this, he did not feel he should have her ashes and sent them back.
Not only does Catherine grieve the death ofone of her best agentsand someone she called a friend. She also confronts her boss while he’s at dinner with his wife to chastise him for the lack of caring for the people who put their lives on the line and give up their entire lives to do the work. She wants to make sure that Alice is not forgotten and that her work was not in vain. She later spreads Alice’s ashes in the ocean from a pier that was one of Alice’s favorite meeting places.

She’s also incredibly tactical and a fierce fighter.Though she doesn’t work in the field anymore, she demonstrated on more than one occasion that she still has it in her to do so. One such instance is in the flashback when she uses the cross of a rosary in her pocket to gouge a man’s eye out.
Why ‘The Night Agent’ Season 2 Cast Will Look So Different From the First
‘The Night Agent’ might tell a new story when the series returns for Season 2, but that doesn’t mean it will lack entertaining political drama.
The most shocking scene involving Catherine, however, is when she spins around to knock a gun out of Solomon’s hands. She delivers two heavy kicks to his gut that suggest she hassome serious martial arts training. They are so forceful that he falls backward into a protruding pipe that slices right through his stomach and kills him. But most crucially, Catherine doesn’t take Peter’s suspicions of her to heart. In saving Rose, welcoming Rose into the mission, and going along with some of Peter’s plans, she demonstrates that she is willing to put her own feelings aside and let Peter see that she’s trustworthy. She wants him to draw his conclusions once he gets to know her, and is more concerned with her reservations about him than she is his about her.

Catherine is also ever patient with Peter, sticking up for him despite the fact that she didn’t think he was ready. Even when he went rogue, leaving her to search for him, she met him with toughness but also gave him grace. In the end, while she made sure justice was served, and he paid for his actions, she also found a way to keep him out of jail and still use him for her purposes.
Fans love the character of Catherine, appreciate the short yetrelevant flashback scenes, and want to learn more. What happened after she investigated Peter’s father’s case? Did she ever come face-to-face with Peter Sr., and did she have something to do with convincing him to redeem himself for the sake of his son?
