We have a brand new poster for the upcomingHellboyreboot to check out ahead of the movie’s first trailer, which is set to arrive online later this week. In the years since Guillermo del Toro first brought Mike Mignola’s demonic creation to the big screen, comic book movies have become the biggest thing in Hollywood. As such, a reboot is coming our way and we are set to get our first truly good look at the new, R-rated take on the franchise this Thursday when the first teaser trailer drops.
There have been rumors that the trailer forHellboywould be dropping online soon, but the exact release date hadn’t been confirmed until now. To help tide fans over until the footage hits, the studio has also released a poster that shows off some more ofDavid Harbour from Stranger Thingsas the titular character in all of his big-horned, fiery glory. Additionally, the one sheet confirms that the movie will be released in IMAX, which hadn’t been revealed previously. This poster also comes with a brand new tagline for the movie, which hints at thedarker tonethat’s going to be explored in the reboot, when compared to Guillermo del Toro’s movies.

While many moviegoers remain upset thatGuillermo del Toro didn’t get to finish his Hellboy trilogywith Ron Perlman, it made sense to rethink the franchise for modern moviegoers. Del Toro’s secondHellboymovie,The Golden Army, released in 2008, was a big-budget epic that was perhaps a bit ahead of its time and didn’t make the kind of money a studio wants from a big franchise blockbuster. The idea of continuing that all these years later makes even less sense, given how much the landscape has changed since then.
During that time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe blossomed and audiences all around the world embraced all sorts of comic book characters. More recently,Deadpoolproved thatR-rated comic book moviescan make big bank. Using that success as inspiration, Lionsgate decided to rebootHellboyand embrace those dark and bloody sensibilities. Creator Mike Mignola is directly involved in the project, with Neil Marshall (The Descent) in the director’s chair. Marshall, for his part, has promised that the movie is quite violent and that they weren’t making it “with handcuffs on.”
The cast also includes Ian McShane (John Wick: Chapter 2), Sasha Lane (American Honey) and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost). Milla Jovovich is on board as the movie’s villain,the Blood Queen. Originally, it looked like the movie was going to come with the subtitled,Rise of the Blood Queen, but that was dropped in favor of the more simple title.
