IfRenfielddoes well, perhaps we will see more ofNicolas Cageas Count Dracula in a prequel. For what it’s worth, the veteran actor says he’d love to further explore the iconic character in his own separate film. InRenfield, Nicholas Hoult stars as Dracula’s right-hand man, and the story picks up with the henchman looking to escape from the toxic relationship he has with the centuries-old vampire. But while Dracula factors heavily into the plot, Cage’s screen time in the film ia limited, as the focus is primarily on Renfield.

Based on what we’ve seen in the promotional materials,Cage’s performance as Draculalooks to be essential viewing for fans of the actor. For those left wanting more, the actor himself touched on his limited screen time inRenfield, teasing that there could be more to do with Dracula. PerVariety, Cage named Dracula as the role from his career he’d most want to revisit at this point as he feels there’s still a lot of potential with what they can do with the Count.

“This is the perfect amount of time for Dracula in this movie," Cage says. “But I wouldn’t mind exploring how did Dracula become Dracula? How did you become that guy? I want to take the time to portray that, to see how he got there.”

He continued, “To me, Dracula was always [about] love and exile. He’s unrequited love, and ultimately, if you don’t get love back, you’re gonna go bad. I want to look at that.”

Nicolas Cage Cherry Picked Qualities from Prior Dracula Performances

Nicolas Cage wanted to do something new with his take on Dracula, but he still found lots of inspiration in the various performances that came before him. He recalled how he took different elements from some of the different takes on Dracula, including the iconic portrayal by Christopher Lee, and blended them all together to help create this unique spin on the vampire.

“I looked at some of what’s been done before and done well and sort of cherry picked what I liked about the Dracula’s that have worked. Then, I tried to break through that and find something new to do with what I learned," Cage explained.

Chris McKay directsRenfieldusing a screenplay by Ryan Ridley; the concept comes from Robert Kirkman who based the story on the original novelDraculaby Bram Stoker. Along with Cage as Dracula and Nichoklas Hoult as Renfield, the film also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Caroline Williams.
