ActorDoug Jones(Star Trek,Pan’s Labyrinth,Hellboy, The Shape of Water) shared his thoughts on the other upcomingNosferaturemake coming this yearwhile promoting his own version of the film.Jones is set to star as the titular Nosferatu in David Lee Fisher’sNosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, premiering on Apple TV+ on Friday, October 18. However, Robert Eggers’ also has an upcomingNosferatufilm premiering in December. The films will be released within two months of each other.

In a recent interview withScreen Rant, Jones addressed the release timing. The actor called it “a confusing time” releasing the film just a couple of months before Eggers, but expressed excitement at seeing Eggers' film and is very enthusiastic about the dual release of the two Nosferatu movies, saying:

Lily Rose Depp with blood in her mouth and eyes in 2024 movie Nosferatu

I’m a big fan of Robert Eggers, and I can’t wait to see their movie as well, and I think Bill Skarsgård is going to also kill it. But we all have our own spin on that original tale, and I think the fans out there, hopefully, will want to see all of them and celebrate this tale, this fable of Nosferatu in whatever version comes out. And hopefully there’s audience enough for all of them.

Jones didn’t express a sense of competition between the two projects other than audience interest. Dracula fans are certainly spoiled with choice this year, and perhaps Jones' version will inspire fans to rewatch the original silent film as well as the two modern interpretations. It remains to be seen how the release timing will impact the reception of both projects.Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrorpremieres closer to Halloween on streaming, whileNosferatuis getting a theatrical release on December 25, making it the perfect Christmas gift for horror fans.

Two New Takes on a Timeless Horror Classic

Both films are interpretations of the 1922 silent filmNosferatu byHenrik Galeen and F.W. Murnau.Inspired by Bram Stoker’sDracula, the German film centers on the undead Count Orlok and a young woman with a grim fascination with vampires. Since then, there have been several remakes and adaptations, the latest being Fisher’s and Eggers’s. Fisher’sA Symphony of Horroris a shot-for-shot remake of the original 1922 silent film. Utilizing a green screen to digitally display the backdrop of the original film, and CGI to add Jones and the rest of the cast, Fisher is essentially transporting the new actors into the original film. The remake is a mix of old and new practical sets, sound effects, and the musical score.

Both actors chosen to lead this year’s duelingNosferatofilms couldn’t be more perfect. Jones is a film legend known for his portrayals of non-human creatures and contortionism, while Skarsgård is known for his physicality and horror performances. Skarsgård stars alongside Ella Purnell and Nicholas Hoult in the highly anticipated installment, with Hoult previously teasing Skarsgård’s performance as Count Orlok and calling his performancetransformative and terrifying. We can’t wait to see how both films and the performances add to the timeless gothic horror story.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrorpremieres October 18 on Apple TV+.

Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name from director F. W. Murnau. Robert Eggers is crafting his own version of the story for the reboot as writer and director, with Bill Skarsgård stepping into the shoes of Count Orlok. Nosferatu tells the tale of a young woman who falls victim to a vampire utterly infatuated with her.
