Gerard Butlerhas signed on to return as embattled Secret Service Agent Mike Banning in the new Millennium Films sequelAngel Has Fallen, a follow-up to 2013’sOlympus Has Fallenand this year’sLondon Has Fallen. The actor will team up with Millennium Films yet again on this action sequel, which doesn’t have a director locked in quite yet.Creighton RothenbergerandKatrin Benedikt, who wrote the first two movies and created the franchise, are returning to write the script.
The originalaction-thrillerfollowedGerard Butler’s Mike Banning as he saved President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) from a terrorist attack at the White House. This year’s sequelLondon Has Fallentook the action across the pond, as a terrorist organization tried to take out several world leaders at once, during the funeral for the late British Prime Minister.Deadlinereports that this new tale features Mike Banning himself as the target, as unknown terrorists try to destroy half of Washington D.C. and the President of the United States at the same time. The title refers to the Secret Service code name for Air Force One, Angel.
Gerard Butlerwill produce alongsideAlan Siegel,Mark Gill,John ThompsonandMatt O’Toole.Avi Lerner,Trevor ShortandChristine Otalwill serve as executive producers. The producers will launch this title to distributors at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California, starting next week.
Antoine Fuquadirected the originalOlympus Has Fallen, which co-starredMorgan Freeman,Angela Bassett,Melissa Leo,Radha MitchellandCole Hauser. The movie took in $98.9 million domestically and $161 million worldwide, from a $70 million budget. This year’sLondon Has Fallenfared worse domestically ($62.5 million) but it took in $133.2 million internationally for a worldwide tally of $195.7 million, from a $60 million budget. Millennium is hoping to start production some time in the first half of 2017 onAngel Has Fallen.
