But the big question is, willJohnny Deppreturn to the franchise? There have been reports that Disney doesn’t want to do anything with Depp and evenrejected his cameoin the planned Margot RobbiePiratesmovie. Depp is currently involved in a $50 million defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard over her domestic abuse allegations against him, which he vehemently denies. During his testimony, Depp declared that he wouldnever return to thePirates of the Caribbeanseries.

That certainly complicates things, but fans are rallying behind the legendary megastar, and there is apetition to rehire Depp as Captain Jack SparrowinPirates of the Caribbean 6. And if he wins his ongoing lawsuit and it rehabilitates his image in Hollywood, things could change. Depp has the fans’ support, and if enough people demand it, even he couldn’t say no to reprising his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Unfortunately, there are no plans for Depp to star in the sixthPiratesmovie for now, Bruckheimer confirmed. When asked if Johnny Depp could come back, the veteran producer said, “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.” While those are not words fans would like to hear, it appears Depp’sPirates of the Caribbeanreturn is uncertain but still possible.

Johnny Depp Wanted To Give A ‘Proper Goodbye’ To The Pirates of the Caribbean Series

While testifying in the ongoing trial, Johnny Depp was questioned by Amber Heard’s legal team over his comments that he’d never play Jack Sparrow again even if Disney offered him “$300 million and a million alpacas.” With his fate already on thin ice after the moderate success of 2017’sDead Men No Tales, Disney quietly fired him from the franchise when Heard’s allegations resurfaced.

Depp is one of the main reasons why thePirates of the Caribbeanseries is loved worldwide, and being declared guilty without due process of lawleft him feeling “betrayed.“Depp, too, wanted the long-running and insanely successful franchise to conclude, but on a high note and with a satisfying farewell.

“My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye, as it were. A franchise can only last for so long and there’s a way to end a franchise like that and I thought that the characters deserved to have their way out, to end the franchise on a very good note. I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.”

As forPirates of the Caribbean 6, Disney has tapped Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) to write the film withMargot Robbieset to star. There’s currently no word about who will headline the otherPirates 6movie in development, but we’ve heardChernobylcreator Craig Mazin andThe Curse of the Black Pearlwriter Ted Elliot are penning the screenplay.

It’s unlikely any major news about the series’ future will come out in the next few months as the Depp vs. Heard trial continues to rile up the internet. But stay tuned for more updates.
