Something big is coming toApple TV+, and it’s a blast from the past! The streaming service has just released the trailer for its upcoming documentary series,Prehistoric Planet. The trailer, along with the synopsis, can be viewed below, courtesy ofApple TV on YouTube.
Experience the world of dinosaurs like never before in this epic docu-series from Executive Producer Jon Favreau and the producers of Planet Earth. With David Attenborough and accompanied by a breathtaking score by Hans Zimmer, Prehistoric Planet is a five-night documentary event coming to Apple TV+ May 23rd.
Prehistoric Planethas been in the works for the past three years and is a team effort of some powerhouse heads in the film and documentary fields. The project comes from BBC Studios Natural History Unit, which is best known for such nature documentaries asThe Blue PlanetandPlanet Earth. The series is also produced by Jon Favreau, who is best known for creatingThe Mandalorianand directing and producing the remakes ofThe Jungle BookandThe Lion King.
The cherry on top of this project is that it is narrated by the award-winning David Attenborough, who has contributed to a great number of nature documentaries throughout his career. This will be Attenborough’s second time contributing to an Apple TV+ project, his previous contribution was on the streaming service’s specialThe Year Earth Changed.

A World Beyond Time…
Since mankind began studying the world around itself, we have always been fascinated with dinosaurs. And since the birth of cinema and the documentary, we have always loved seeing them on screen, be it the silver screen or television. But what makes us keep coming back to dinosaur documentaries, is that we’re constantly learning about them as well as developing newer and better technology to present them on screen. The effects in this particular project are done by the Moving Picture Company, who worked with Favreau in his previous remakes ofThe Jungle BookandThe Lion King.
As seen in a clip below, uploaded by Apple TV+, the visuals are better than ever! We’ve certainly come a long way to how we’ve seen the Tyrannosaurus Rex compared to when CGI first made them come alive in 1993’s Jurassic Park.
Prehistoric Planetwill feature a score by Hans Zimmer, who is best known for his soundtracks in such films as 1994’sThe Lion King(for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Score), 1998’sThe Prince of Egypt, 2000’sGladiator. He also worked with Favreau when he returned to score for the 2015 remake ofThe Lion King. His most recent award was Best Original Score at the Academy Awards forhis work in 2021’sDune.
Prehistoric Planetwill be released in a five-day event starting on May 23rd, with one episode releasing per day. So you’ll have to wait in order to binge the whole thing at once.
