There are some franchises that can manage to pull off both family-orientated and mature-themed installments, but after over two decades theHarry Potter sagais one that has remained a staple of family movie marathons and will do so for some time to come. While there has been theFantastic Beastsmovie spin-off, a stage show, and a recent reunion between the cast, there is one thing that the franchise has not explored; a more adult-themed project. However,Ralph Fiennesrecently spoke toThe Listabout his upcoming movieThe Forgiven, and mentioned that he has a concept for a Voldemort spin-off, but it probably wouldn’t fit with Warner Bros. PG-13 world.
Fiennes first appeared asLord VoldemortinHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and portrayed the villain inHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two. While the actor has previously said that he would reprise his role as Voldemort if the chance arose, as he discussed his idea of focusing on a relationship between the Dark Lord and his wife with Jessica Chastain, it became clear that this would not be one for the kids. The conversation withThe Listwent like this:

Fiennes:I think Voldemort should reappear and there should be Voldemort’s Bride, played by Jessica.
Chastain:Fine. But then would it be a loving marriage?
Fiennes:I think it would be. It would be very complicated. It would be obsession. They would hate each other. Then they would come together with incredible spells. They would have amazing sex, and then they would have their traumatic separations. They’d use their magic to manipulate each other and fall in love with each other.
Chastain:It sounds very exciting. Probably not appropriate for children, but who cares?
Fiennes:Who cares? Right.

Voldemort is One Of Fiennes’ Most Recognizable Characters
Despite having appeared in dozens of movies, includingSchindler’s List, The English Patientand numerous James Bond entries, Fiennes’ role of Voldemort is probably his most universally recognized, despite him being heavily under layers of make-up and prosthetics. While it is very unlikely that Fiennes would get to make his idea a reality, there could be avenues around the character that Warner Bros. could well decide to expand on in the future.
While J.K. Rowling once professed to be done with theHarry Potterfranchise after releasing the final book, but since then, she has returned to the Wizarding World with involvement in the stage play,Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and theFantastic Beastsfranchise. While the former of these is always being touted for a possible adaptation to the big screen, and the most recent addition to the latter has stumbled for a multitude of reasons, there is no doubt that Harry Potter is always on Warner Bros. radar for future projects.
There could well be a Voldemort spin-off of some released in the future, but exactly what that would entail is something that would be a closely guarded secret for some time to come. If Fiennes wants to explore a more mature side of Voldemort though, he may be left waiting for a very long time.
