Just because many of us meet potential companions in the real world while also living in the center of a highly digitalized era does not mean they are necessarily trustworthy people. As a devoted skeptic who routinely preaches the sentiment never to trust any person, the realm of online dating unleashes any person’s worst fears possible. Women are always told to be aware of ongoing human trafficking rings, potential abductors, and murderers. However, cannibalism is steadily becoming a threat that should also be taken into account. From early films such asHannibal(2001) tothe originalThe Texas Chain Saw Massacre(1974), the threat of being eaten alive has always been present, spanning back over decades.
InFresh, a young woman, Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones), is plagued by the horrors of online dating. As Noa becomes unsuccessful in her quest to find a partner, she unexpectedly meets Steve (Sebastian Stan) at a local supermarket, where the two begin their blissful romance. But is Steve really who he says he is? If a man seems perfect from the very beginning, the relationship is too good to be true. Thecomedy-thriller heavily integrates cannibalisminto its storyline, intentionally targeting women due to the claim that the gender “is in high demand from its large-scale customers.”

Through many of Noa’s mishaps inFresh, viewers can take away valuable life lessons in their own lives. Understanding the crucial dos and don’ts of dating, whether after meeting someone online or in the real world, these learnings are essential and could potentiallysave real lives.
Never Disclose Family Rifts
The go-to line for any person should always be, “My dad’s a cop.”
Early on inFresh,we see Noa disclose to Steve (while on their first date) that she is no longer in communication with any of her family members. Come on, Noa. Maybe she felt safe at the moment to tell this to Steve. However, it still was a bad idea. Rule number one, even if you aren’t communicating with any existing family members, do not tell this to a guy, especially so early on. From his point of view, if his intentions are already not in the right place, revealing this could give him the ammunition to carry out plans of potentially causing harm towards you.

In his mind, he’s saying, well, if I abduct this girl, theirs no one important in her life to go out and search for her. Making your date fully aware that not onlyis your family in your life, but they’re also officers of the law will definitely weed out any sketchiness.
Don’t Consume Drinks From Strangers
Who cares if they paid for them, don’t accept.
Rule number two is another pivotal one, do not drink anything a date gives you. The bottom line is that trust has to be earned over a period of time. Now, unless you’ve been dating this person for at least several months, the exchange of alcoholic beverages should absolutely not be happening.

After Noa and Steve arrive at his secluded home in the hills (don’t worry, we’re going to get to that soon), he makes her a quote on quote “special drink.” What’s wrong with this picture? Noa has only known this man for a week. Not only has Steven been dropping some serious red flags by asking her borderline weirdo questions, but the kicker is that her back is turned to him as he mixes her a cocktail. Screaming at the television has already happened during this scene.

Scenario one, if you are ever alone with a guy, either in his house or yours, never have your back turned to him. It only takes two secondsto mix in a liquid drug, and being alert is critical. Scenario two, while at any bar, watch the bartender make your drink from scratch. Sending a drink over is sketch enough, and there have been instances in the past where bartenders have spiked drinks. Watching the bartender mix a drink is the only option, or theirs no pathway for said guy to hold your attention at all. Also, take the drink with you everywhere you go, even to the bathroom.
Romantic & Secluded Getaways Are Not Happening
Sorry, Noa, you’re still our girl.
Noa’s biggest mistake (that we all can learn from) was going away with Steve to a secluded location. Initially, the two were set to travel to a cabin somewhere in the mountains, but at the last minute, Steve proposed to take Noa to his home, and in the morning, the two would start on their road trip. Never happened. None of us can really blame Noa for this because, again, she felt comfortable around this man, he told her that his occupation was a doctor, and he picked her up in a Tesla. There is nothing more legit than a Tesla, by the way. It’s easy to feel for Noa because she initially matches with looser after looser on her dating app when out of thin air, she meets what she believes is the perfect guy at the supermarket. We all want Noa to have her happy ending, but you must always be aware to protect yourself. After not even a week of dating, you should never agree for a guy to take you somewhere remote, especially where no cellular service is present.
So there it is. WatchFreshfor yourselves and learn from Noa’s mistakes. No one in the world is perfect, and we’re not blaming Noa’s character for the predicament she found herself in. The story inFreshis merely used as a template to identify the best possible ways current single individuals can protect themselvesfrom the dangers associatedwith in-person dating.
