Resident Evilstarted out as a critically lauded and belovedvideo game series, and was adapted for the big screen in 2002. The movies have diverged substantially from the plot of the games, but have retained certain important elements, such as The Umbrella Corporation and zombies. Not only that, but as far as movie adaptations of video games go, theResident Evilfranchise is by many metrics, the most successful of all-time. They fit the bill of not being loved by critics, but they have fared well at the box office, having grossed $915 million worldwide. Also, no other video game movie franchise has even come close to getting six major studio movies made. The series has been a staple, but it is nearly time for fans to say goodbye.
The movie will be coming up against Warner Bros.' comedyBastards, which starsOwen Wilson, Universal’s comedyA Dog’s PurposestarringDennis QuaidandBritt Robertsonand EuropaCorp’s thrillerThe LakestarringSullivan Stapleton.
