The themes of justice and rebellion continue to resonate with fans of all ages. Now, MGM+ is reimagining the iconic character in a new series, offering a fresh take on the English folklore hero.Deadlinereports that the streamer’s 10-partRobin Hoodseries will hail from showrunner John Glenn (SEAL Team), producer-director Jonathan English (Librarians: The Next Chapter), and executive producer Todd Lieberman.
Produced by Lionsgate Television, the project will begin filming in February 2025 at PFI Studios in Serbia and debut later next year. English and Glenn aim to honor the spirit of the beloved vigilante while adding a twist to thecenturies-old tale of the iconic outlawwho steals from the rich and gives to the poor.

Over the years, Robin Hood has been portrayed by Hollywood icons such as Errol Flynn inThe Adventures of Robin Hood(1938), Kevin Costner in 1991’sRobin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Cary Elwes in 1993’sRobin Hood: Men in Tights,Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’sRobin Hood(2010), with Taron Egerton taking on the role in 2018’sRobin Hood. Currently, however, no actor is attached to play the fearless outlaw in English and Glenn’s series. Speaking to Deadline about the project, the duo said:
“Robin Hood is a global brand and a story we’ve both been obsessed with since our youth. We are truly honored to have partnered with MGM+, Lionsgate and Todd, to bring this classic story back to life.”

In the upcomingRobin Hoodreboot, viewers can expect a modern vibe with historical accuracy. Michael Wright, head of MGM+ noted that the plot centers on Rob’s romance with Marian, known for her loyalty and courage in classic literature. Wright teased:
“It’s an exciting, smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story.”

In the MGM+ series, Robin and Marian join forces to fight against injustice throughout the realm. The synopsis for the new series states:
“Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.”

The MGM+ series isn’t the only Robin Hood project in the works, as Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star in director Michael Sarnoski’sThe Death of Robin Hood. Described as a “dark” feature, the movie will explore the outlaw’s violent criminal activities in his later years. Production begins early next year in February when English and Glenn’s show gets under way. Carly Kleinbart and Nicole Bryant will lead the series for Hidden Pictures, Lieberman said:

“This reimagining will not only feature the thrilling action and adventure that audiences love, but it will also explore the complex human side of these famed characters.”
