It’s official, Marvelites:Ryan Cooglerwill step up to directMarvel’sBlack Panther, in theaters June 22, 2025!Chadwick Bosemanwill star inBlack Pantherafter debuting as the character in the upcoming Marvel’sCaptain America: Civil War, in theaters May 6. Here’s whatMarvelStudios PresidentKevin Feigehad to say about the filmmaker in a statement.

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join theMarvelfamily. The talentsRyan Cooglershowcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to directBlack Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to seeBlack Pantherin his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bringT’Challa’s story to life.”

Coogler wrote and directed his first award-winning feature film,Fruitvale Stationin 2013. Most recently he directed the critically-acclaimedCreed, which earnedSylvester StalloneaGolden Globefor Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. It isn’t known when production will begin onBlack Pantherquite yet.

Black Pantherhas been an important character in theMarveluniverse for 50 years. He is the king of the technologically-advanced nation of Wakanda, and Panther has served as a member of theAvengersin addition to his many solo adventures. Fans recently got their first look atChadwick Boseman’sBlack Pantherin the first trailer forMarvel’sCaptain America: Civil War, which debuted back in November.

Joe Robert Cole(Amber Lake) recently signed on to write the screenplay forBlack Panther, which will debut just a few months beforeMarvel’s highly-anticipatedAvengers: Infinity War Part Ihits theaters on June 14, 2025. There have also been rumors that the studio is seekingErnie Hudsonto play T’Challa’s father T’Chaka inBlack Panther, but that has not yet been confirmed.
