Ryan Coogler’sSinnershas been taking a huge bite out of the box office in the last week, securing impressive reviews and a profitable haul. While the movie seems to be pretty much perfect as it is, there were some alternate cuts that didn’t make the final film, including several alternate endings and a slightly different post-credits scene.

In a recent interview withGQ, Miles Caton, who plays Sammie, revealed that directorRyan Coogleractually filmed several different ending scenes for the movie. While the film ends with Sammie deciding to pursue a life of music with his guitar, there were other possible contenders that just did not strike the right chord with the director when all was said and done.

“There were a couple different scenes that we shot for that moment. Him going back to the church, and him holding the guitar and holding onto it, it’s like, “Do I give this up, or is there an alternative?” I think that was the decision there. Also, that we’re all sinners. We’re all trying to make better choices, better decisions every day, and so that’s something that we see throughout the film that I think is beautifully written.”

The Real Soul of ‘Sinners’ Is the Stealthy Main Character No One Is Talking About

Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ is a transcendent film full of complex characters – including one that not enough people are talking about.

Sinners, like many movies, comes with a post-credits scene, in which Sammie plays a blues rendition of the gospel song, “This Little Light of Mine.” Caton explained that this scene was also changed and originally featured Sammie’s preacher father.

“That was something that we shot earlier in filming, and it was originally Sammie looking to his father after playing in the church. We were thinking of what could we do to kind of do our rendition of “This Little Light of Mine,” so me and [composer Ludwig Göransson] had been working together to come up with our sound, and how it would be on a resonator guitar, and that’s what we came up with.”

‘Sinners’ Has Scored a Big Box Office Win

WhileSinnerswas expected to deliver a reasonable performance on its opening weekend, theMichael B. Jordanmovie blew away projections to claim the top spot at the box office. Now, it is delivering again in what is shaping up to be another incredible weekend following a week of strong word-of-mouth,and a record-breaking CinemaScore grading.

While the movie may not have pulled in $200 million on its opening weekend,Sinners’performance has become another win for low-key movies that don’t come with all the fanfare and mega-budgets of Marvel movies, but deliver strong reviews and are incredibly profitable. In the last several years, hits likeSinnershave become more and more frequent, and are creating a whole new backbone for cinemas that many other big studio movies are failing to provide on a regular basis.
