It looks like the MonsterVerse is enlisting the help of someone who has come up against some of the most fearsome monsters before, as a new report fromDeadlinehas suggestedJurassic ParkstarSam Neillhas joined the nextGodzilla x Kongmovie in an undisclosed role.
The originalGodzilla vs. Kongfilm was released in 2021, and was expected to be the final chapter in the reimagining of the classic Japanese monster franchise that began with Gareth Edwards’Godzillareboot in 2014. As it turns out, that epic team-up of two of cinema’s most enduring Goliaths became the most successful movie of the franchise at the time, and kick-started a whole new chapter in the saga. The success would lead to the 2024 sequelGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which flipped the previous film’s rivalry to turn Godzilla and King Kong into allies instead of enemies. Outside of the constraints of any pandemic or restrictions, the film made a kaiju-sized amount of money at the box office, and a third movie was very quickly put into production alongside the spinoff series,Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Toho wants to expand the ‘Godzilla Minus One’ universe.
At the Sydney premiere of the upcoming second season of HBO’sThe Last of Us, actress Kaitlyn Dever revealed that production on the currently untitledGodzilla x Kong 3has begun. Another newcomer to the frachise, Dever told the press she was “shooting another film in Queensland right now, so I just popped down to Sydney for all of this press, and then I’m going back there.” Dever confirmed that the film in question was the new kaiju movie when asked. The new movie is expected to hit theaters on June 29, 2025.
Who Is in the ‘Godzilla X Kong’ Sequel Cast?
Along with the newly announced Sam Neill, the newGodzilla x Kongmovie has assembled an impressive cast of humans to stand alongside – but definitely be overshadowed by – the mighty monsters that everyone wants to see. It is hard for regular people to compete with the sight of several building-sized CGI behemoths demolishing everything in sight while beating seven bells out of each other. The talent on display should provide a strong bit of support for the leading beasts of the franchise.
Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, and Matthew Modine will joinreturning Dan Stevens, Dever, and Neill in the movie. There has currently been no word on which other former stars of the franchise could be returning, but with new director Grant Sputore at the helm, there is a chance that this could be a mostly clean slate of characters coming into the franchise.
Naturally, there is also the question of whether there will be any kind of crossover from theMonarchseries, which will be returning in the coming year with a second season afterlanding the story on Skull Island and introducing Kong to the mixafter focusing on Godzilla for the first season. With filming already underway, it will probably not be too long before we find out more about where this new addition to the franchise is taking the story and who else will be coming along for the ride.
