The project reportedly came together last fall, originated byOcean’s ElevenstarGeorge Clooney, directorSteven Soderberghand producerJerry Weintraub. The trio have enlisted screenwriterOlivia Milch(Queen & Country) to tackle the script, which she has been working on for several months. There was speculation the project might have been delayed, after producerJerry Weintraubpassed away this summer, but the site reports thatOlivia Milchhas handed in a draft of the screenplay and the project is still very much in the works.
While it isn’t known how much theremakewill be connected toGeorge Clooney’s 2001 movie, sources claim that he could even return to cameo as Danny Ocean. While this is the first we’re hearing of this project coming together, it was briefly mentioned in emails leaked from the Sony hack, whereAmy Pascalurged the filmmakers behind the all-femaleGhostbustersreboot to move faster, once she heard of this project. The movie is expected to be next up for directorGary Ross, after he completesThe Free State of Jones, due out in theaters August 04, 2025.
