During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, while promoting her new dramaThe Outrun, Ronan discussed her possible participation inNarnia, telling Kimmel:

“There isn’t like, no truth to it. She hasn’t asked me yet; she’s writing it. But we have the kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, ‘So, I’ll be in this, just so you know’ and she takes some time to think about it and she goes, ‘Okay.'” She added: “She honestly hasn’t asked me aboutNarnia. I think she’s so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now.”

Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation, which will include at least two films for Netflix, stands alone from previousNarniafilms and series. Details surrounding her iteration of the C.S. Lewis novels are scarce, but we do know that Gerwig will write and direct the films for the streamer and that principal photography is set to begin in early 2025. Production forthe ambitious projectis set to take around seven months. No cast announcements have been made.

Saoirse Ronan Earns Praise for Latest Project

Ronan and Gerwig’s previous collaborations have been successful, resulting in critical acclaim and major award nominations. Two of Ronan’s four Academy Award nods came from her work onLady BirdandLittle Women(the other nominations stemmed fromAtonementandBrooklyn), and Gerwig earned Best Director nods for both films. At the time, Ronan was working on her latest film, Nora Fingscheidt’sThe Outrun, which is now in theaters. Based on Amy Liptrot’s memoir of the same name,The Outrunfollows Rona (Ronan), who, hoping to heal, returns to her childhood home in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, following her struggles with alcoholism in London. The film currently holds a Fresh 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and those high marks can be attributed to Ronan’s performance. Even critics who find fault with the film’s pacing and depth sing Rona’s praises, calling the actress a “superb vessel through choppy waters” and her performance “remarkable and daring” and “soul-restoring.“ABC News’Peter Travers says she delivers an “emotional powerhouse of a performance that should rank her high in the Oscar race for Best Actress,” and it’s entirely possible we’ll see the actress gain her fifth Oscar nomination.
