As most of you fellow horror fans know all too well by this point in time, James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s infamousSawseries is heading back to the big screen next year with a reboot starring Chris Rock (I’m Gonna Git You Sucka,New Jack City) and Samuel L. Jackson (The Long Kiss Goodnigh,Pulp Fiction). And today we’re hearing rumblings that on top of this newSawfilm, there is aSawTV series in development as well.
While this is all just an unconfirmed rumor at this point in time, it is pretty much a known fact that if this series ever comes to fruition it will most likely sport an all-new cast of doomed characters. That said, and I don’t know about you, but I find the idea of a TV series set within the world ofSawto be about the most ‘duh’ idea I’ve heard in a while. After all, we all know from the franchise’s history that these stories can be produced quickly and on limited budgets. Plus, I know it’s not just me who kind of always felt that theSawfranchise was really just abig screen TV seriesto begin with.
Whether or not there really is aSawseries in development, fans of the franchise need not worry too much because, as mentioned above, there is an all-newSawmovie heading to theaters this May. It is all set to starChris Rockas a police detective named Zeke with Samuel L. Jackson playing his father, Marcus, Max Minghella portraying his partner, William Schenk, and Marisol Nichols rounding out the cast as police captain Angie Garza.
And if that surprising cast wasn’t enough to pique your interest in anotherSawmovie, there’s more. Not only has director Darren Lynn Bousman teased that this reboot contains the biggest trap ever built for anySawmovie, but he also tweeted it sports what is arguably the mosthorrific death sceneso far in the franchise. In fact, he went so far as to say that this new horrific death scene rivals the infamous Needle Pit scene fromSaw II. You know the scene I’m talking about. That’s a bold statement, Bousman. Sounds good to me!
Saw II,Saw III, andSaw IVdirector Darren Lynn Bousman returns for the newSawmovie. He will be helming the motion picture from a screenplay written byPiranha 3D,Sorority Row, andJigsawscribes Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger based on the original film by James Wan and Leigh Whannell and an all-new story by Chris Rock. Franchise producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg are returning for this new film as well. Lionsgate Films originally scheduled Chris Rock’sSawreboot to be released on June 04, 2025, but then went ahead and moved it up a few months to avoid competition with Blumhouse’s Halloween (2018) sequelHalloween Kills. It will now be unleashed into a theater near you on June 21, 2025. In the meantime, this unconfirmed rumor comes to us fromWe Got This Covered.
