A few weeks ago, a rumoredcast listleaked for Marvel and Sony’sSpider-Man: Homecoming, which revealed a number of intriguing details. The list seemingly confirmed an earlier rumor that actressAngourie Ricewas playing Betty Brant, and thatBokeem Woodbineis playing The Shocker, a character which may have finally surfaced in new set photos. While we don’t know for sure if the character in these photos is The Shocker, the costume certainly seems to match up with The Shocker’s costume from the comics.
The Shocker, a.k.a. Herman Schultz, was created byStan LeeandJohn Romita Sr.in 1967, first appearing inThe Amazing Spider-Man#46 in March 1967. The character was a high school dropout but also a brilliant engineer, who used two gauntlets he invented that emit high-energy blasts to break out of prison, after he was caught for a string of burglaries. He is said to be the best safe-cracker in the world and became well known as a master thief. The set photos that debuted onTwittergive us a glimpse at the costume, but we don’t know anything else about the scene in question.
We also don’t know for sure if it is in factBokeem Woodbinein this costume, or if it is a stunt performer. The leaked cast list also revealed another interesting character,Kenneth Choi’s Principal Morita, who may be related to the actor’s other MCU character, the Howling Commando Jim Morita from 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avenger. It’s possible that, if Morita does learn aboutPeter Parker’s secret identity asSpider-Man, the principal could have some interesting stories to tell about his grandpa’s battles alongside Cap.
