Simon Kinbergis one of the many writers that have been close to joining the world ofStar Wars, but ultimately never got to make his contribution. But the acclaimed filmmaker has a very clear idea of what he wanted to do with his Boba Fett movie.

Before Disney went and bought Lucasfilm to put its hands into one of the most popular science fiction franchises in the world, the George Lucas-founded studio already had plans to make a sequel to the original movies. At the time, their plans included anEpisode VIIfilm in development along with a movie centered on the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett. However, when the House of Mouse came into the picture, everything changed, with a whole new collection of movies and TV shows taking center stage.

Zack Snyder’s Next Movie Is Netflix Sci-Fi Adventure Rebel Moon (1)

But Kinberg hasn’t forgotten the ideas he had while working on the script the Fett movie that was never made, and recently shared new detailsin an interview with Polygon:

“Tonally like Logan. On the edge of R-rated, though I don’t think you’d have a Star Wars movie that could be R-rated. But at any rate, I think over time, my role morphed as a friend of the court. And so it ranged from being a consultant on the movies, give thoughts, notes, sometimes actual pages for scripts, and obviously co-creatingStar Wars Rebelsand really staying with that show that I loved. Part of what was so exciting aboutRebelswas that we were getting to do something that those movies I just mentioned didn’t entirely do, which is created a brand-new set of characters.”

Zack Snyder Also Wanted to Make an R-Rated Star Wars Film

Kinberg is not the only filmmaker that tried to bring theStar Warsfranchise into the R-rated side of movies. Zack Snyder also wanted to deliver a more adult, violent and dark story within the franchise, right when Disney bought Lucasfilm.

That movie that Snyder pitched to the studio is what ultimately becameRebel Moon, his next big franchise coming to Netflix later this year. Snyder didn’t want to follow the story of any character already introduced, but to explore another side of the galaxy that hadn’t been shown until that moment. In the end,Snyder confessed he is happythat the idea was not picked up by Disney, and he was able to develop it further to become its own thing.

Rebel Moonfollows the story of a small colony set in a distant galaxy which is constantly mistreated by the army of the reigning empire. Tired of this situation, they send a mysterious refugee to look for allies around the galaxy to join their fight, overthrow the current tyrant, and free themselves from oppression. A story that shares many similarities withStar Wars, especially due to the political plot and, obviously, the setting.
