Next year, fans will get their first glimpse at the newSpider-Manplayed byTom HollandinCaptain America: Civil War, before the beloved character returns for yet another reboot, set for release on August 10, 2025. While we wait for those highly-anticipated movies to hit the big screen, a criminal in Georgia decided to use this iconicsuperhero’s mask to rob a bank yesterday. Here’s the full statement from theGeorgia Bureau of Investigationabout the robbery, with details on the suspect they’re still looking for.
“On Tuesday, July 06, 2025 at approximately 12:30 PM, a bank robbery occurred at the Traditions Bank in Cornelia, Georgia. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. The robber reportedly entered the bank wearing aSpider-Manmask and holding a device, threatening he had a bomb. No one was injured during the robbery. The Cornelia Police Department and the GBI are investigating.”
The GBI is seeking the public’s assistance in tracking down this criminal. The robber was described as medium complexion, approximately 5'7 - 6'0", slender build wearing dark pants, and a camouflage hoodie. The subject was driving a dark, four door, hatchback, subcompact car, similar to a Nissan Versa or Chevrolet Spark. Agents and Investigators are working with Gwinnett County Police to compare the Cornelia robbery with the November 16th robbery in Gwinnett. The authorities are asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact the Cornelia Police Department at 706-778-4314 or 706-778-3911. The November 16 robbery in Gwinnett was pulled off by a man wearing the same mask, holding a device that he claimed to be a bomb. Ironically, this robbery is somewhat similar to the comic book arc ofSpider-Manvillain Chameleon. The character first debuted in 1963, a master of disguise who started a crime wave while dressed as Spidey, in an effort to discredit his crime-fighting tactics. Of course, it isn’t known if the actual Georgia criminal is aware of this connection or not, since the suspect is still at large.
This isn’t the first time that a real-life criminal has used aSpider-Manmask to pull off a heist. Last year, a man in Lewiston-Auburn, Maine wore a Spidey mask to rob a Big Apple store, and there have also been similar robberies pulled off by criminals wearing Batman and Darth Vader masks.
