ActressAnna Kendrickmade headlines earlier this summer when she revealed on Twitter that her brother thought she should play the quirky Marvel Comics character Squirrel Girl. Shortly thereafter,Stranger ThingsstarShannon Purser(Barb) expressed her desire to play Squirrel Girl on social media, and now it seems that Squirrel Girl may hit the small screen. A new report reveals that both Marvel Studios and ABC Studios are developing aNew WarriorsTV series.

While we don’t know for sure ifAnna KendrickandShannon Purser’s tweets had any influence over this series being developed,TV Linehas learned that Marvel and ABC Studios are shopping the project to cable andstreaming outlets. It isn’t known if the studios have any writers or producers attached quite yet, or if a pilot script has even been written yet.

New Warriorsis described as a “junior version” ofThe Avengers, a superhero team made up of teenagers, including Doreen Green, a.k.a. Squirrel Girl. WhileSquirrel Girlwas never a member of the team in the comic books, she was part of the New Warriors in the animated TV seriesUltimate Spider-Man, where she was joined by Agent Venom, Iron Spider, Ka-Zar, Zabu, Cloak and Dagger and Triton. We don’t know for sure whether or not this new TV series will include the same lineup. Though, it’s doubtful that Cloak and Dagger will be included, as they are getting their own TV show on Freeform.

The New Warriors made theirMarvel Comicsdebut in 1989’s The Mighty Thor #411, created byTom DeFalco. They were originally seen as a younger counterpart to The Avengers, in the same way that The New Mutants and X-Force were formed alongside the X-Men. The original New Warriors lineup included Firestar, Marvel Boy, Namorita, and Nova with Speedball and Night Thrasher. Other additions through the years included Silhouette, Rage, Hindsight Lad, Bandit, Dagger, Darkhawk, Powerpax, Turbo and the Scarlet Spider.

Earlier today, we reported thatShannon Purserhas signed on to playEthel Muggsin The CW seriesRiverdale, based on the Archie Comics. Even if thisNew Warriorsseries does find a home, it will most likely be quite some time before we see it on the small screen, so perhaps there is still a chance thatShannon Pursercould nab the role. It’s also possible thatAnna Kendrickcould put herself in contention for the role, after her tweets went viral.
