Here’s an early Christmas present! TheStar Trek Beyondtrailer has officially arrived. And it’s 90 seconds of pure bliss set to theBeastie Boyshit Sabotage. Here, we get our first footage from the third installment in producerJ.J. Abrams' rebootedStar Trek universe. And all of our favorites return, includingChris PineasCaptain James T. KirkandZachary Quintoas Spock, along with the rest of the crew.
This slick teaser kicks off withSimon PeggasScotty, commenting on Kirk’s bold taste in vintage music, a direct callback to the original 2009Star Trek, which started it all. Though, we’re not sure if Sabotage is being used as a metaphor or not. In the opening moments of this sneak peek, we’re reintroduced to the entire crew of theStarship Enterprise, which includesKarl Urbanas Bones,Zoe Saldanaas Uhura,John Choas Sulu andAnton Yelchinas Chekov.

Star Trek Beyond takes place during the Enterprise’s five year mission to boldly go where no man has gone before. The crew will discover new life and alien civilizations. But as we can see in this preview, not all goes according to plan. The Starship comes under attack, and Kirk is jettisoned to survive on an unknown planet by himself. He boldly states the following.
“No ship. No crew. How am I going to get out of this one?”

As we see in the trailer, the entire crew has been separated. While Kirk tries to survive on his own, Scotty is set off on a periless, mountain climbing adventure. Meanwhile, Bones and Spock are cornered by an unknown alien species. Bones expresses his relief to Spock that at least he won’t die alone. But then, Spock is teleported away from the dangerous situation. In response, Dr. McCoy states, ‘Well, that’s just typical.’
We get to see Kirk displaying his motorcycle skills only hinted at in the originalStar Trek. And we are introduced to the new alien played bySofia Boutella. There are plenty of explosions, a lot of action and a quick glimpse atIdris Elbaas the new lead villain. It’s an exciting hint at what we can expect from directorJustin Lin, who brings hisFast & Furiousswagger to this longstanding franchise. The Star Trek Beyond trailer will debut on the big screen withStar Wars: The Force Awakensstarting this Thursday, with both sequels coming fromJ.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.
